Re: How Many Songs Has EC Written?

I probably should just request an account for the wiki, but in any case it looks like it's time for a Boy Named If update, which should bring the total up to 630. (And that's not counting any songs I might be forgetting since Hey Clockface). EC just gave an interview to People magazine where he casu...

Re: New compilation / package, based on Painted From Memory, 2022

PFM is the oldest EC album to not yet have a deluxe reissue, since the Rhino editions only went up to ATUB. I really hope we will get a chance to hear some demos, to get a glimpse of these songs in their earliest stages of development as EC & Burt were writing them and before they were fully fil...

Capitol Records logo on that 45!

Did EC sign with a new label? He is listed as appearing courtesy of EMI in the liner notes for Spanish Model, which I believe would put him back under the UMG umbrella, yes?

Re: A girl named Wendy

I still can't believe that there has never been a proper release of all of EC's Wendy James demos. I thought for sure we would get them during the Rhino campaign but now I wonder if we ever will. I've always thought it would make a perfect limited edition vinyl release-- it's too obscure and raw to ...

Re: Spanish Model, Sept 10, 2021 - New release based on one of Elvis Costello and the Attractions most celebrated albums

I really find it disturbing to hear the music I have known for so long being treated this way. Not "good" disturbing. watched 45 seconds of big tears. yuck. again, i so wish i could 'go' with this, but, well, nope. when i put it up against clockface and the ridiculous armed forces comics,...

Re: "La Face de Pendule à Coucou" EP (French versions of Hey Clockface songs)

How many people got one of these yesterday? I ordered a copy from Rough Trade but then a friend in the UK picked one up for me, so I may end up with a 2nd copy (that another friend already asked for, should that happen). I wonder why this was made a UK-only release. Was that strategic? Or practical?...

I think This Year's Model is a strong enough album to survive alternative interpretations by other performers.

Re: "La Face de Pendule à Coucou" EP (French versions of Hey Clockface songs)

I will chime in to say that I return to the Purse EP fairly often and like its 4 tracks as much as anything on Look Now or Hey Clockface. I think the new EP is a fun curio but agree it will probably wind up in the same column as Wise Up Thought or The Sweetest Punch. I will buy the physical release ...

Re: Farewell, OK 2020: new song!

It's not unlike the days when one might hear a song pop up on the radio before an album is released-- you might catch all of it or some of it, you might even be quick enough to hit record, but if not, you gotta wait till the record is released! (This was my pre-release experience of Brutal Youth in ...

AND in addition to the song reference, "The Other Side Of Summer" has the lyric at the end about "the mightiest rose."

EC avoided having overt title tracks until ATUB and then he got on a kick of having them more often than not! PFM, FTS, TDM, TRIR, NR, WUG, HC

Re: The Complete Armed Forces (Super Deluxe Edition)

The box is gorgeous. The expanded liner notes are great. It feels like they are in dialogue with both his previous liner notes and Unfaithful Music & Disappearing Ink, which he references a few times within. It feels like a real celebration of the record. I hope there is enough demand for a Get ...

Re: What Next For Elvis after A Face In The Crowd ?

Re: 50 Songs For 50 Days - Elvis Costello's October Surprise

Too much time on my hands? I put all those lyrics together into one continuous supersong. It's kind of a fun listen: DktG60AH3IY This is a fun listen. Its rhythm sort of takes me back to when there were TV commercials for music compilations on TV and you would hear small snippets as the titles scro...

Re: What Next For Elvis after A Face In The Crowd ?

Oooh... I would be very excited to hear what EC & The Imposters would come up with in the current unusual circumstances. I was thinking we would have to wait until they could get back into a room together but the idea that 2021 could bring us a new Imposters LP makes me hopeful!

Re: New album Hey Clockface will be released October 30, 2020

I love it. I was expecting it to be kind of a hot mess COVID album-- and undoubtedly it is a different LP than we might've gotten if the pandemic hadn't happened and EC had gone into Abbey Road with The Imposters as planned-- but it holds together nicely. It is adventurous and experimental but the a...

Re: The Complete Armed Forces (Super Deluxe Edition)

For me, it may be that 'the times' make it hard for me to take any more "aggressive provocation." And, I think, those comics are not aggressively provocative. They are very limp and make the aggressive provocations of Armed Forces seem, well, limper. I dare say that I wish he or his desig...

Re: The Complete Armed Forces (Super Deluxe Edition)

Again, I get not liking them but I also find Armed Forces to be the one point in EC's discography where he is pushing at the ugliness of culture and history in ways that are aggressively provocative. Songs like "Chemistry Class" are making sex jokes mere seconds before referencing Hitler's...

Re: Armed Forces Redux - 6 record set

There are tours I'd rather see releases from first, like some 1986 shows, but I'd love to get a Rude 5 live release. I kind of doubt it will happen, though, unless they start releasing a TON of stuff from the vaults. I love their MTV Unplugged set and any of the clips from 1991 I've seen on YouTube ...

I wonder if the upcoming box set had come out a year or two ago, if it could've saved Armed Forces from being demoted to (presumably) the RS Top 1000...
