Re: Doc Watson RIP
Amazing indeed docw - thanks so much for the link. Also Christopher thanks for your interpretation of the song. He played it in Manchester 2009 to fill in time whilst Jacqueline Thomas replaced a string. I loved it straight away, and agree that it is one of the best on NR. However I can't say I've e...

File under genuine fans. I remember Maria and friends ( inc sister?) attending one of Elvis' shows at Liver pool's Royal Court Theatre, Feb 2005 probably. Right at the front, middle, among the mayhem.

Re: Liverpool Meet up?
Hats off indeed. Great to meet the Boarders in Dr Duncans, most of whom I got to meet again in row G! Throat still croaking from the community singing at Everton and Elvis. What a day. My critical faculty tends to go AWAL at his live shows, but I really enjoyed myself. I think that was what he was a...

... I had been at the Kings Dock show in Liverpool a couple of moths earlier and been disappointed for the first time at a Costello gig, he seemed tired and weary. As a consequence, despite the pleading of a fellow Costellophile I didn't bother with the gig he did at the Mountford Hall the night be...

Liverpool Empire 13th May 2012
Hi Gang According to my records Impostor, John, Sulky, Olivers, Death and now VG are attending the forthcoming Empire show. Why don't we try to meet before the show? My plan is to speed away from the Top Balcony at Goodison immediately following the lap of honour etc, so I should reach town at 5.30-...

Re: ECIS the end of an era !
I was an subscriber from 1995-2001, how nice it was to have Mr Postman call with the latest edition. I'm impressed that Richard has kept the presses rolling for so long, step forward and take a bow Mr G. "Going through the Motions" which ECIS published would be my book choice on Desert Isl...

Re: Elvis/'Spinning/Dublin, May 9 '12 -promo. interview
Whilst I'd never rule out the cynical "lets re-fill my wallet whilst I still can" approach, I think it's a bit more than that with Spinning. I think he really likes playing live and he's found a very successful vehicle to break away from the obvious one - greatest- hit-after-another formul...

Re: Which EC song means the most to you out of context ?
Very poignant thread... The out of context one for me is "Veronica". My late Mum's name was Vera - clearly a shortened form that was used about EC's Gran ("And they call her a name that they never get right") and these words get me every time:- "And a young man sailed on a s...
