Actually, almost all the male Marxists I've ever encountered seemed to be in it primarily for the babes. Unless you count the Academic Marxists, who, of course, will be the first put up against the wall and shot when the Revolution comes.

I sort of agree with you, Noise, but what a lot of people aren't getting is that, in this particular go-round, abortion/Roe V. Wade is actually one of the least important issues. The IMO, by far the most worrisome/important aspect about what appears to be an attempt to greatly increase the powers of...

I sure hope you mean Puerto Rico, because whether or not the swallows are returning, San Juan Capistrano isn't worth a 3000 mile trip. Trust me on this. I mean, it's pretty and everything, but not Toronto-to-Orange County, CA pretty.

I just posted that Lou Rawls was "definitely the man" but now I find that Robbie Fulks is merely "pretty much the man." Still, haven't heard a note of the guy as far as I can tell, but anyone who can do "go Imperial Bedroom" on a country album has got to be worth listen...

Lou was definitely the man. And "Natural Man" is one of the great underappreciated pop records of all time. Even made my occasionally reactionary dad a bit angry, so I guess it was political in a Rousseauian sort of a way.

Very true. Also, "senility and incontinence" is the new "death."

Anyhow, my advice is simple: denial....Hey, 100 million alcoholics can't be wrong! :P

Happy B-day, Mr. Doofster.

It is indeed a lovely thing. And it's deeply refreshing. Letterman was, I thought, surprisingly outspoken in his (admittedly fairly cautious) support the Iraq war early on, so he's probably feeling as if he's been taken in kind of personally. His righteous, yet bemused, anger is magnificent to behold.

I've never drove drunk and I've never had sex with the same gender. :? You mean you've never had sex with a person of the same gender as yourself, or you've never had sex with a person of the same gender as the prior person with whom you enjoyed conjugal relations, i.e., following a pattern of boy-...

Speaking of Gervais -- did "Extras" end/get cancelled? I saw the last one of this season (that's American for "series") and, while his character didn't die or anything, it sure looked like it was a wrap for the series.

Nor have I ever tried throwing anyone, to see how far I could trust them.

RIP John Spencer and Vincent Shiavelli

As a big fan of that army of great working characters, this hasn't been a very good holiday season, because we lost two of the best and most memorable. John Spencer most of us know as Leo, the Chief of Staff, from "West Wing" and for his role on "L.A. Law" (which I only vaguely r...

For me, and lots of other people, "Notorious" and "Shadow" are among Hitch's all time best. (Truffuat's favorite was "Notorious", Hitch loved "Shadow.") For me, the only one that tops those two is "Rear Window."

The song is called "Imagine" not "this absolute truth". (This was first pointed out to me, more or less, by Gordon Jump's character on "WKRP in Cinncinatti", confronting a Jerry Fallwell stand-in....) Don't care what EC says, at certain times, this is probably my second...

I've never shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die. However, I have been socked by a female security guard in Reno, just because I busted her front car light. I have never smoked marijuana...without coughing. A lot. I have never consumed more than two bites of any hot entree featuring canned tuna ...
