Re: Recently viewed films

Just saw Mr Turner. Mr. Spall, as well the others actors, were great, the photography was beautiful, and the settings and period characters were very authentic.

Re: Recently viewed films

Eddie Redmayne performance in Theory of Everything was magnificent and deserving of Best Actor. I believe it should win Best Picture. The film is more a love story between Jane and Steven then a film about Steven's work. Felicity Jones is a new actress, for me, to be on the lookout for.

Re: Recently viewed films

Just saw Birdman. It will get either Best Director or Best Movie. I am holding off on Best Actor, because I have not seen Theory of Everything or The Imitation Game.

PG Wodehouse

Growing up I read a collection of short stories by Mr. Wodehouse about a valet named Jeeves. They were very witty as I recall; It's been many years since I read them. Last week, I picked up from my public library Season 1 of the BBC TV show, Blandings starring Tim Spall and Jennifer Saunders. I like...

Welcome Veronica. I suppose that Elvis does not get out to Minnesota much.

21st century Elvis

I have spent the better part of the weekend listening to Elvis' 21st century catalog. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed River in Reverse, National Ransom, Secret Profane & Sugarcane, Momofuku, The Delivery Man, Wise Up Ghost.

Re: New Gig Thread

Last night I saw history upon stage. Willie Nelson put on a great show. I'm not a huge fan, but he did many recognizable hits. No pyro, no electric instruments, no pageantry, just a man with a guitar, his sister on grand piano, a man on upright base, and a man with only a snare drum. The last half h...

Re: Recently viewed films

I do agree that 'Boyhood' is a great movie. No deaths, no on-screen physical altercations, just good characters and raw emotions. At times, it did seem that the characters were thinking about and internalizing way too much. The aim of the movie is exploring life, so that is more my fault than the mo...

Vicious

I recently caught an episode of this British sitcom on PBS. I can't say it was particularly funny, but it is groundbreaking. Americans have the gay couple on Modern Family, but the gay couple on Vicious are flamboyant.

Started to read Paul Stanley's Face The Music:A Life Exposed. It turns out the makeup was to hide a deformed ear and other insecurities Paul had. I'm only a few pages into it, but it is well written and very good so far.

Re: 2014 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival

The best vacations I have ever had are at this event. I have never done both weekends of the festival, but one is good enough. The food is also great I have posted pictures and videos on my FB page. My camera was stolen on the first evening so my pictures of Santana are lost to the wind. mark.newber...
