The audience seem to be half dead for most of the show. Why do people pay to see world class musicians then seem reluctant even to clap let alone dance! I know we're all getting on a bit but is there a law against enjoying yourself?

I have mentioned it before but anyone remember the EC produced Watch me Catch Fire, by Big Heat? A fine song. Also, the Bluebells did a song called Aim in Life. It was on the scrapheap, but EC heard it during a rehearsal and persuaded them to record it. He produced it but it could almost be an EC vo...

Lispy montonic vocals indeed. Good description. However, Al is about 60, still tours the UK every year or two, always sells out, and last time I saw him, people were queueing for an hour afterwards for his autograph! So he does have an incredibly loyal fanbase.

I just had a look and Bruce played bass on the Al Stewart albums Orange from 1972 and Past Present & Future from 1974. Funnily enough, also credited on the Orange album is Brinsley Schwartz on 12 string guitar. I wonder if Nick Lowe and Bruce knew each other before the Attractions were formed?? ...

Sad EC related deaths

I read that Brien Hopkins of Eggs Over Easy has died. Eggs Over Easy were a band that included Austin De Lone (was he a Confederate or a Rude 5? I forget), and EC has been quoted as saying that without that band there would have been no pub rock movement, and no Elvis Costello!

What's the worst thing that Elvis could do

I know there are times when EC has tried his most ardent fan's patience, whether it be She, The Juliet Letters, North etc etc. But what is the one thing which would make you disown him forever? For me it would be either a photo shoot in Hello magazine. "At home with Elvis, Diana and the twins.&...

I saw EC live in 1986 in a solo show in London (The Royalty) and he sang American Without Tears then told a story about what happens if you write a song and halfway through the song the main character very rudely gets up and leaves. He then went into the twilight version.

I like the Brinsley Schwartz influence, the guitar riff..and is this the one where El says: "At last" at the end of the song?

I once went to see The Pogues in Nottingham in 1985. I left early - the crowd were too manic, and the sound wasn't good. The next day the review in the paper said that surprise guest Elvis joined them on drums for the encore. Oh I wept!

I have always liked Party Party and I know it has been well documented that Elvis hates it.....but what do other readers rate as his worst song, or the one they dislike most. I have always disliked Glitter Gulch and Little Palaces, though they are from my favourite album!
