Re: Reposting: The Costello Show: A Burlesque Tribute Elvis!

A sexy girl with a cute EC glasses tattoo on the back of her neck handed me an invite postcard for this show outside the Beacon last night.
Old-timey burlesque & EC? That's a win! Totally just bought tickets for this! Expect this to be a riot.

Re: Elvis and The Sugarcanes, New York, NY, 10 Jun 2009

Wow, BA! Nice going! I guess we were just down the row from you--front row loge on the far right. That show was so incredibly, mind-blowingly awesome! Elvis really brought the goods! The crowd was on fire! The band was amazing! The restored Beacon looked fantastic! Holy shit! What a great night! The...

Re: EC to release Secret, Profane and Sugarcane

Thanks, BA, for your kind words!
More and more this record is blowing my f**king mind! I think it might be the best ever. With every listen I am freshly stunned by something I didn't fully appreciate the last time.

I am very excited about tomorrow night!!

Re: EC to release Secret, Profane and Sugarcane

i dreamed of my old lover last night is my fave....maybe because i have loved it ever since 1999 on the duo w/ steve tour. AWESOME SONG!!! Yes! Very awesome. I think "I keep my lipstick twisted tight" might be my favorite image in any EC song ever. It evokes so much-- all of Geraldine's s...

Re: REVIEWS: Secret, Profane and Sugarcane

I don't think Elvis has ever done a more joyful love song than The Crooked Line. Neil, Absolutely agree. It's a lovely song--so straightforwardly happy --very infectious & fun to listen to. Quite a contrast between it and other recent love songs, like "Still" or even "Flutter &am...

Re: WXRP "Secret" Concert in NYC?

Yes, thanks for the account AlexV. That sounds like it sort of sucked a little bit. Especially the Pinfield part. Now I'm not so upset about missing it. I'll wait for the real thing at the Beacon.

I was not there--apparently I didn't make the list. Damn!!!!
Elvis is supposed to be on XRP this morning (not sure what time) talking about how fabulous it all was.

Re: WXRP "Secret" Concert in NYC?

I don't know about the 2 radio stations working together--it's just a thought because it seems like Elvis is booked at 2 places at once--live in the studio at FUV and at the XRP show. I don't think the location is going to be announced until Tuesday, but I just heard a DJ say that it's not going to ...

Re: WXRP "Secret" Concert in NYC?

Well, maybe this will be it! Maybe EC is Bronx-bound! Good luck!
I've been trying all weekend to win tickets, but so far I suck at it. I'm still on that "maybe list", but if I miss this show I'll be bitter. Seems like it's going to be really special.

...unless the thing at FUV and the secret concert are actually the same thing. Maybe the secret location is some auditorium at Fordham.

Re: Elvis Costello On Magnetmagazine.com

I've also had a hard time learning to love Imperial Bedroom, although I admit I only heard the full album for the first time about a year ago. Before hearing it, of course I knew IB's reputation as a flawless pop masterpiece, and clearly it's loaded with amazing songs--some of them probably among EC...

Re: REVIEWS: Secret, Profane and Sugarcane

But on Sugarcane (as well as on his previous record, Momofuku), Costello is displaying a new found talent for making his many influences work together in compelling ways.
Nicely stated!

Re: REVIEWS: Secret, Profane and Sugarcane

Has anyone heard any airplay on significant radio stations, etc? Neil.: Absolutely! WXRP in NYC has been playing the Hell out of Complicated Shadows for weeks (although for the 1st couple of weeks they kept saying it was from ATUB, even though it was the new SP&S version). Now they have a whole...

Re: WXRP "Secret" Concert in NYC?

i hope our internet entries still can win them as now they are looking for the 9th caller after hearing EC! I know! It's sort of confusing! I wonder how many days they are going to take "9th callers" before they announce the venue and so forth. I think the internet entry just gets you on ...

Re: REVIEWS: Secret, Profane and Sugarcane

They pick out the most "accessible" songs, and seem to ignore the great tracks that need multiple listens to unveil their greatness. That's totally true. Music critics--Grrrr! So often they are just phoning it in. And many EC songs really do require attention and careful listening. The re...

Re: Wish List for Songs EC Might Play With The Sugarcanes

I could even see them do something in a Renaissance vein, like John Dowland. That's an interesting possibility! "Bluegrass" music is really just English & Irish folk music from hundreds of years ago that went up into these remote mountain regions in the US and festered a bit, but real...

Re: REVIEWS: Secret, Profane and Sugarcane

Wow! OK. So Timothy Finn of the Kansas City Star is an idiot. That was a lazy, bullshit review and it really pissed me off when I read it. Maybe he's a high-school kid interning at the newspaper. Really? It would have been better if Elvis had been "re-packaged" like Robert Plant? First of ...

Re: Wish List for Songs EC Might Play With The Sugarcanes

Could there be a few songs radically reworked to fit the new band's style?...I think it's this category of songs that could provide the biggest surprises of the upcoming tour. Absolutely! Love many of these suggestions, too. Other Side of Summer? Fabulous! Likewise the "George Jones Demos"...

Re: EC to release Secret, Profane and Sugarcane

general feel- this will not be a big seller-just popular amongst the "devoted" I don't know...maybe this record is bound for a better destiny. To my amazement, I've heard "Complicated Shadows" on WXRP in NYC a bunch of times in the past few weeks. It appears to be in their regul...
