Re: New Gig Thread

My weekly update on the gigs I've been to! Lucinda Williams was in Edinburgh last weekend doing a stripped down show as a trio with bass and guitar accompanying her. It was a well attended gig at The Queens Hall with a really enthusiastic crowd which I thought she really seemed to appreciate. A lot ...

Re: Relatively Insignificant EC Stuff. . .

From my last few gigs, Lucinda Williams' last pre-show tune before her Edinburgh gig was 'Watching the Detectives'. Had a quick word with her afterwards and mentioend that Elvis had played just along the road the week before at The Festival Theatre, and she said she was soory she missed him as every...

Re: New Gig Thread

Mixed reactions from this weeks gigs so far - one I left early and the other was almost perfect! Left work later than planned on Tuesday owing to some paperwork landing on my desk. So, missed the bus through and by the time I did get to Hampden, Springsteen was already on stage. By the time I got do...

Re: New Gig Thread

Springsteen tomorrow evening at Hampden Park, Ron Sexsmith at The Sage on Wednesday, Beady Eye in Glasgow with mates on Saturday and then Lucinda WIlliams on Sunday.

Hopefully they will all help ease the withdrawl symptoms of my last Elvis gig of the tour.

Phil Jupitus of Nevermind the Buzzcocks fame was in the 5th row in Edinburgh with actor Ewan Bremner also there (he's best known for being Spud in Trainspotting). Other than Everything but the Girl, any other well kent faces spotted attending?

Re: Elvis & The Imposters Edinburgh 16/6/2013

Here's hoping that Nicola76 spins the wheel and it lands on Episode of Blonde. Only getting to spin the wheel could possibly have made this wonderful gig any better! 2 hours and 50 mins worth of sheer entertainment. Sold out venue - sat along from me was Phil Jupitus and also spotted Ewan Bremner i...

Re: Elvis & The Imposters play Blackpool, 13 June '13

It was disappointing and did ruin the moment somewhat. Shipbuilding is the one song I can't help but drop a tear to when it's played, and I love hearing the opening chords. Sometimes I just shut my eyes and soak it all in all the more. I think it's safe to say that the two in front of me didn't want...

Re: Elvis & The Imposters Edinburgh 16/6/2013

Who's going ?( courtesy of Mr Foyle) I'm lucky enough to have front row middle stalls tickets :) IF i take along my SLR with standard lens to take a few pix, what are the chances I can shoot away without being put on the naughty step ? I'll be exactly 3 rows behind you! Can't miss me - if 'I Can't S...

Re: Elvis & The Imposters play Gateshead, 12 June '13

Funny you mention Ron playing there, as there are a few Scots I know travelling down to see him at The Sage rather than make the trip through to Glasgow for his show there because of the quality of the venue! I'm making the trip down because it clashes with Springsteen in Glasgow and I'm spoiling my...

Re: Elvis & The Imposters play Blackpool, 13 June '13

Got back to Edinburgh at 4 am and saying I'm struggling is an understatement  < Red Bull face. Had about 90 minutes sleep. Getting a big coffee will be the first thing I do at work today! Agree with Sulky. I thought Elvis had to work quite hard for the crowd in Blackpool to get any sort of re...

Re: Elvis & The Imposters Edinburgh 16/6/2013

I'll be there :D 4th gig of the tour and 4th row (how apt)

If it's anything like the night I had at the Glasgow gig last year, it will be a great night - my friend and I still collapse in laughter whenever we think about it. I would tell you, but it's one of those 'had to be there' nights!

Home at last! A chance to catch my breath and go back to work for a few days before heading to Gateshead and Blackpool :P It was lovely to meet some other fans and share some stories - I'd have hated to have been the only one up dancing! Funny that the last review knocks Jimmie Standing in the Rain....

Again, me! Happy to meet up with others if there's something planned beforehand. Recommend the RAH Tour for anyone who hasn't been before. I managed to get a ticket for the Bowie exhibition at the V and A that day, so it will be an eventful (and brilliant) day!

Re: New Gig Thread

Have added a few gigs since my last post! Public Enemy on Monday evening in Glasgow was fantastic. Never been to a hip hop gig before, nor was I ever a massive fan of hip hop apart from Public Enemy and De La Soul who grabbed my interest when I was about 13 or so. Fantastic atmosphere and a real per...

Re: 'a newspaper picture..A woman was kissing a child'

Saw this played at both the Glasgow and Liverpool gigs last year. Thought the reception at Glasgow was fairly raucous by comparison with Liverpool a bite more muted than I expected. When paired with Shipbuilding, it's a remarkably powerful suite of political songs. The line 'while we could be diving...

Re: New Gig Thread

The Brodsky Quartet were fabulous! Thoroughly enjoyable evening. The Queens Hall was probably about half full - I was probably the youngest there (always a boost to the ego!) - but they really have such a gorgeous sound that it made going out on a snowy cold night worth it. They used their own 'Whee...
