Was watching Brothers & Sisters with Mrs RtHtW and commented that US family dramas were much better than ours. However, within a minute I was proven wrong when two previouly bickering parents at a sick childs bedside turned to each other and said "I love you". I could have puked.

Is it just me, or is the idea of a tribute album to a singer just daft? Ella's own recordings are readily available in hi fidelity, so why would anyone want to buy a facsimile thereof?

(mind you, that petite chanteuse is teriffic)

John wrote:... if I could edit out Glitter Gulch, Eisenhower Blues and Poisoned Rose it would would be even better.
But Poisoned Rose is phenominal!

I've never liked the thick sound of B&C. Had hoped the reissues would improve it but, alas, it still sounds thick.

KoA, however, is v. warm.

Going off topic here, but I'm pleased to find an excuse to quote Sir Humphrey's classic description of our press, from the rather marvellous Yes Minister (an 80s BBC TV satire of the corrdors of power): "The Times is read by the people who run the country. The Daily Mirror is read by the people...

I always thought he got the name from 2001: A Space Oddyssey - the lead astronaut is Dave Bowman.

Strange times indeed. Not so long ago Yorkshire was having water shipped in 'cos of drought.
But I always thought that water flowed down the map, so how come the South has stayed dry?

No doubt it's down to contractual strings in the deals Apple have to make with the copyright holders, same deal as 'regioned' DVDs and Japan only bonus tracks - big business likes to think it's controlling distribution.

Well, Mr Difford put on a v. good show. Good humoured, plenty of old faves, with just a couple of his own. Needless to say the sun didn't shine, but at least it didn't rain (last year Eddie & the Hot Rods adjourned to the dryness of the nearest pub for their set). A chumbly initiated conversatio...

I recall an EMI spokesman, challenged over the high price of the Red and Blue double CDs (esp. when the 4 discs could have been shuffled onto 2), claiming that it was The Beatles themselves (or at least Apple Corps) that insisted on the format and pricing.
But then he would say that, wouldn't he?

Interesting topic. Absolutely! ... But I'd rather take a band like Zeppelin that stole ideas and made it their own, then the old way in the 50s where a band would make an amazing record, and then all these copy cats came out and outsold the original, like Pat Boone outselling Little Richard back in...
