Re: Recent CD Purchases

http://www.recordstore.co.uk/images/covers11/08.2011/wilco_deluxe.jpg New Wilco, though not out till late September, it's sure to be at least superb, and probably something more than that. Curiously Amazon here are charging £1.60 less for the 2 CD bonus version, cover above, than the differently co...

I didn't know that. I have already asked my family for that song to be played when I am laid in the ground.

Re: Ross passes....R.I.P. Mr. MacManus

Otis and I sat near Ross at an Elvis gig at the Birmingham Symphony Hall a few years back. He looked very proud and I really wish I had said hello. RIP and lots of commiserations to Elvis and the rest of the family.

Re: Memories of Elvis in Macroom, Ireland in 1981

Strangely enough, I have really fond memories of Macroom for different reasons. I went fishing there in 1979 and I caught so many fish that I actually got bored catching fish. Incredible and a wonderful weekend.

Indeed. I am getting bored receiving 'advanced' email warnings of gigs in Tucson or bloody Tallahassee. Let's have some Cambridge, Northampton or Leamington Spa! 8)

Re: National Ransom - New Album Due Nov. 2

Church Underground is not my favourite NR track, but it's still a good tune and would still stand up to the likes of Pads, Paws and Claws, Coal Train Robberies and Chewing Gum IMHO.
I agree with JD about the sound. Does anything in EC's compare to Spike sonically?

Re: National Ransom - New Album Due Nov. 2

I'm beginning to think this is a wind-up Mr Toothpaste! Every track on KOA is Ace? Eisenhower Blues? Dull version on Misunderstood? Glitter Gulch (which is just an alternate take on The Big Light)? It's a great album, but it had it's uninspired moments! As for SP&S being more listenable than NR,...

Re: National Ransom - New Album Due Nov. 2

NR is a fine record. It astonishes me how anyone can compare it to GCW, PTC and Il Sogno :?

Isn't that a bit like comparing, a grape, a parsnip, a lampshade and a Hippopotamus?

Btw, I think PTC is great record, so what do I know?

Re: National Ransom - New Album Due Nov. 2

Listened again on dog walk/Sainsbury's shop and thought 'hmmm, why hasn't it grabbed me?' as it undoubtedly has some great songs on it. Opener is part good and part a bit lumbering. Jimmie and Moon are indeed excellent, I Lost You is fun, Dr Watson is dead good, One Bell Ringing too. I think, then,...

Re: National Ransom - New Album Due Nov. 2

Just a taste thing I guess Otis. If I remember correctly, you were a big TDM fan, whereas I hardly ever play it now. I'd take this new album over TDM every time...the TDM title track in particular leaves me cold, but he still plays it a lot, so I guess he thinks it's great. I find it a total dirge. ...

Re: National Ransom - New Album Due Nov. 2

I keep reading about what a great track I Lost You is but it just doesn't do anything for me. Other people have slated Dr Watson I Presume yet I love it. Different strokes and all that. I really like 'I Lost You' but I absolutely ADORE 'Dr Watson'. The latter is rapidly growing into an all-time fav...

Re: National Ransom - New Album Due Nov. 2

Maybe I'll get it more with playing it more, but I was more inclined to listen to RIR when it came out. Maybe it's to do with the fact that the opening track is a let-down. Much is impressive, but so far it doesn't inspire me. I've only played it once the whole way through and suspect that, as per ...

Re: Your favorite EC album and why.

I pick All This Useless Beauty, various reasons why, possibly his best lyrics, catchy, quotable, fun, mysterious, features "the great mosey delta blues man Paul McCartney" and it even has a meaningful title as to what he thought was the fate of the album. Isn't it great Mersey delta blues...

Re: Your favorite EC album and why.

It will always be "Get Happy" for me. The sheer musical energy and muscle coupled with a lively verbal dexterity always make this album a fun listen. I do not think they ever sounded better as a unit- singer/songwriter and the accompanying band. A close second will always be Trust/Imperia...
