Re: In praise of Momofuku
I really, honestly, cannot imagine Tammy singing that song. It truly sounds like an Elvis Costello original...I haven't done my research. Yes, Mr. Burnham...I wrote an unpublishable novel. I also have a book of poetry, a book of short stories, and a book of essays...all of which cannot be purchased....

Re: In praise of Momofuku
How can anyone NOT like American Gangster Time ?! This is what I'm talking about "old-school Elvis"...a hard banging song with lurid lyrics that has the listener constantly trying to figure it out. One of the highlights of the record, if you ask me. One of the novelties I've noticed on thi...

Good times, bad times...I've had my share...
You know, I was going through a particularily bad time when I first heard Momofuku . It's all been pretty rough lately, but at the time I first purchased it, my gal was on her way out. For some reason the recording wasn't really gelling like I thought it should. I just wasn't getting into it. Then, ...

Re: In praise of Momofuku
I think a vinyl-only release would have been unfortunate, but also appropriate, because...to me...the recording harkens back to the early Elvis years. It has some of the raw vitriol of the first two and a half years, and also some of the cool songsmithing of albums like Imperial Bedroom . Yet, still...

In praise of Momofuku
I purchased Momofuku when it was first released, and have since given the CD away to a good friend who knew what to do with it. It's been a rough couple of years for me. No, really...more ike a rough 5ive years. I froze my ass off this winter, living in a small borrowed recreational vehicle parked u...

Re: NR--Billboard Chart Placement?
Elvis is above it. The world doesn't deserve him. Stop hoping for his "success". He's fine without it. He doesn't need to make a record. If National Ransom proves anything, it proves that Elvis should quit trying to sell, and start trying to prove. Let him rest. Let him make. Let him live....

Re: Elvis in 'Straight to Hell' (1986), with Dennis Hopper
I watched Straight to Hell this morning, along with the documentary, Back to Hell . I thought it was quite entertaining. In a way, it was predictive of movies like Pulp Fiction . Elvis looks blind without his glasses. Coffee addicts...heh-heh...truer than we admit. Karl's Disco wieners. On sale in t...

Re: REVIEWS: National Ransom
I bought it today. What strikes me most is the mix. This is rock, country, jazz, and pop all in the same music. There's respect back to the Thirties...it's not Cab Calloway or Woody Guthrie or the Mitchell Brothers, but a song about chicken would fit right in. The dissonance in it is almost a seed. ...

Re: what is consciousness?
It's really cute how you take it so seriously. Ask an impossible question, get an impossible answer. "Why is there air?" - Bill Cosby, 1966 Consciousness is the awareness of being. If you weren't concious, you wouldn't know you existed. Let's see what onelook.com has to say... http://www.o...

Re: what is consciousness?
What a silly question. Thanks for asking. Brains form bundles of nerve endings and create pathways of communication between them. The more evolved a brain is, the more likely the owner is going to sense a "consiousness". The sensory organs attached to the brain create an illusion of "...

Come on, rsternb1! This thread was buried, and you came here and dug it up?! You're a megaphony, and you know what I'm talking about. Throw your Elvis in the can, he doesn't care. He's already made the money. His art means nothing now that he shows some empathy for your "enemy"? Shakespear...

Re: Elvis cancels shows in Israel , June/July '10
O yes, I am well aware of the arbitrary nature of Elvis' political actions. I was dismayed by the Lexus ad, outraged by his singing for Mrs. Clinton, and more than a little miffed that he had Madeline "Iraq sanctions were worth the deaths of 500,000 Iraqi children" Albright on his show. Ha...

Re: Elvis cancels shows in Israel , June/July '10
I think that it would be appropriate to note that, when Elton presented Elvis with his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Elton admitted that he wished his career had followed a path closer to the career of Elvis. What he meant by this seemed pretty clear...Elton is a sold-out tool. He b...

Ah, dear megaphoney rachel... So, that map I posted represents the original territory of Judah? It was Jewish before it was Muslim, so Jews deserve it more? Why don't you just say it? "God" gave that land to the Jews, and we all better believe it! ...and it doesn't matter what we do or how...

I'm surprised to still be learning about Elvis history.
Thank you, Mr. Foyle.

Re: Elvis cancels shows in Israel , June/July '10
That's just how it is. Empire makes it's own reality, and sticks with it. Anyone who doubts the "facts" is a traitor or terrorist. It's been that way for a long long time. Quoted from above: “Misinformation about the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is rife, particularly in Costello’s England ...
