BTW if anyone else would like to start off another close up on a favourite song, that'd be lovely. Night all.

Thanks for your short and sweet reply cbartal. Sulky I'm sorry to hear about the fate of your artwork - what was it like? Mr Av, probably too much indulgence, affairs and the usual trappings of fame caused it to flow from his pen. I'd feel it more a self hatred than a love song. A vague stab at how ...

Close Up on Beyond Belief

Morning all. Having had some great discussions about individual songs (lyrics, structure, meaning, jokes and so on) on the old official EC site board, thought it a good idea to do same here. Anyroad, my starter for 10 is Beyond Belief. Apologies if the following is slightly long, but if you know the...

If he's into guitar bands then plenty of noisey Attractions and Imposters: Chelsea, doll Revolution, Straight or Blind, Happy Now, etc. I remember Thom Yorke in an interview saying his favourite Elvis track was I'll Wear it Proudly. I'd recomend giving your mate a lyric sheet - you can cut and paste...

Well, Pills & Soap has a direct quote from The Temptations' Papa Was a Rolling Stone and God's Comic is an affectionate conceptual steal that shows his enduring love for Randy Newman, who Elvis always berates himself for trying to imitate on the old Charlie Gillet demos (My Aim is True reissue)....

Hi, thanks for your welcome Misha. With Elvis's music you have to go away to come back and rediscover. His musical tastes have broadened my outlook a lot and set me off on some great paths of discovery: Mose Allison is one who springs straight to mind. I keep meaning to go back through EC's milleniu...

45 should have been the lead single off WIWC. Daft mistake, he used up all the publicity window (TV and radio appearances and the like) with Doll, Revolution which, although a fantastic song, was never gonna be a hit with its lo-fi subversion. The video for 45, when it did come out as a '45' didn't ...

I agree with you both. For me the reissues really open up new avenues of appreciation and enrichment. Town Cryer is stunning. Hearing the early versions on IB is really a revelation, not least the slow, sexy and low Kid About It, which gets me every time. In the same way my appreciation often deepen...

Well that's another great beat combo for Bruce to play with. Elvis always likened the Attractions to the Who - he was right. I hope Bruce gets the gig.
