Re: Book promo, Manchester , England - 27 October 2015

This is a rather grotty location, even by WH Smith's standards. I would have thought the nearby Waterstones would be more approprate.

I got the Audio version from Auduble on a month's free trial - very entertaining so far!

Re: Steve Nieve plays Elvis , Liverpool , Oct. 10th 2015

I had a great night despite the confusing diversion signs as I drove into Liverpool! Great to see Top Balcony, John F, Sulky, Cocktail Murderess and Spirit of Curiosity again and some people who I met for the first time, sorry I did not catch yur names! Steve was wonderful and great to hear not only...

I was in a car crash this week - I'm OK but my car is a write off. Just before it was towed away I managed to retrieve the excellent recording of the Harrogate show (thanks Sulky!) from the car's CD player.

Re: Elvis, solo, Nottingham , June 14 2015

I sometimes think that EC should not play the piano at all. Shipbuilding at Harrogate had some very dubious notes in it, but then I Can't Stand Up was great. I agree with the reviewer though that it is a relief when he picks up a a guitar again. Maybe I am spolied by lsitening to Steve for so many y...

I was getting excited there. I was hoping to see Ronan Macmanus or Larkin Poe. I wonder if someone backed out or what? It sounds like the venue was misinformed or a change of plan?

The solo live Strict Time was much slower and you could hear the words. Similarly with Luxembourg at the same 1984 show! Shame he hasn't played it too often solo.

Re: Elvis, solo, plays Harrogate, UK, June 6, 2015

I am going - in fact I went to the last one in Harrogate in November 1984, the first time I saw Elvis. T Bone Burnett supported that night, I had to leave early and missed The Coward Brothers encore, and somehow managed to miss my last bus home as well! The taxi back to Bradford made it a VERY expen...

During an England football game last year, Ben Watt tweeted that Tracey was getting excited during the match, showing an interest in football for the first time in her life. I tweeted asking if Tracey thought England had got everything but the goal. Unsurprisingly, I got no reply at all.

Re: Looking for Pathway Studio

There is a documentary on Sky Arts1 which is repeated regularly called Guitar Stories: Mark Knopfler. Mark and Dire Straits bassist John Illsey go back to Pathway recalling the early days of the band. Their first radio exposure was when they had their demo played by Charlie Gillett so there are some...

That is incredible! I just logged in to say I heard Mood for Moderns in the Halifax Morrison's! It wasn't a single and can remember it being on a compilation so maybe Morrison have a maverick music compiler!

Re: Elvis Costello 2015 Detour - UK Dates

This ties in quite nicely with the First Elvis gig thread for me, as he is playing Harrogate for only the second time. The first time was my first EC gig in November 1984, supported by T Bone Burnett. Nice to go to the same venue 31 years later!

Incidentally, trivia fans, that picture of Harry Worth's window trick was actually filmed in Manchester. It is now Starbucks near the Royal Exchange Theatre!

Re: What are Elvis's favourite venues?

Given EC's love of old theatres, I'm always surprised he plays the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester. I saw him with the Imposters there and it took ages for the audeince to get going. Liverpool is always good whether the Royal Court or the Phil.

Do you think the lady in the Manchester Evening News meant "bespectacled man?" rather than "bespeckled? " Isn't that a word to describe a hen? Great show in Manchester. After the first encore, and Olive's Army, my wife reached for her coat and bag. She has a lot to learn! An hour...

I remember EC performing this on The Tube with the Special AKA and Dave Wakeling of The Beat. I think he was a last minute relacement for the singer (Stan??) who couldn't make the show for some reason. I am sure someone here will remember the full story,
