Re: We're All Cowards Now

I have to confess I'm not a massive fan of the recent very very gloomy songs on Hey Clockface. This one, the spoken word ones, Newspaper Pane etc. are so, so bleak. Elvis has always had a sour worldview, quite understandably, but often in the past he has couched them in very peppy pop. But these one...

You can hear George Purvis talking about his passion for Elvis in the Dangerous Amusements podcast. Definitely not a dilettante!

Re: London meet up - Saturday 7th August - A cause for optimism

Hi all,

I'm going to get there for 1.30pm, as I have to leave by about 4pm. So if anyone can make it that early, cool.

If not, I'll just read a book!

Re: New album with the Imposters in 2021?

Totally agree with the above.

Especially in this time of pisstaking streaming services where artists get peanuts, Elvis can do whatever he wants to try to exploit his talent. No-one is forcing anyone to buy any of it!

Re: New album with the Imposters in 2021?

You're right, this is looking encouraging! I heard 'Farewell OK' - it was a fun rocker in the style of 'Baby's Got A Brand New Hairdo' (and, as has been noted, a very big tip of the hat to 'Hippy Hippy Shake'), so although it felt a bit of a throwaway in that regard, the actual sound of it was terri...

Thank you, Krm! Holy cow, I have never heard of this version. And here it is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OixKiRJOpoU There is defo more separation on the all the instruments and the vocal - can hear what everyone's doing much more clearly. The vocal is prob the original, but because it has more...

Re: Spoken word recordings by another veteran artist

Is it compulsory for you to buy any music from a fellow countryman, Neil? It’s not unusual  I thank you! Sulky *chuckle* - alas, I just looked at it on YouTube. TBH am not a fan of these spoken word things at all! Sorry Tom 'n' Elvis! Verbal: You can leave your hat on... or get your coa...

Spoken word recordings by another veteran artist

Sounds like Elvis isn't the only elder statesman doing 'talking' songs these days.

This is from the latest Tom Jones album:

Re: New Stereogum Ranking of EC Albums

Apart from Verbal's tablets-of-stone definitive version, I defo agree "Lists? shimshts!", in general. But I have to say MLAR's placing is way out of order! Get aahtah my pub!!! And controversionally, I almost never listen to My Aim Is True, and would rank it bottom 10! It worries me that p...

Cool! Thanks for the description, I'll go and buy it if it's available as a digital item. I don't want the whole CD (if that's what it is)

So has anyone heard 'Maud Gone Wrong'?

Is it any good? Is it the love child of 'Stella Hurt' and 'Isabelle in Tears'?

Remember the song 'Tart' from 'When I Was Cruel'?

"Oranges roll in the gutter... and you pick them up..."

Well, d'you reckon this was what Elvis was talking about?

Re: early bugs!

I don't think it's to do with copyright law necessarily. I think it's accepted that a song is written by a writer, then given to a band to play. There'd be no song without the writer - so consequently there'd be on no bassline, drum part, keyboard solo... However, some bands have made a deal whereby...
