Elvis at McCartney White House Tribute, June 2010

A post at the Paul McCartney Examiner blog says that McCartney will be given the third Gershwin Award for Popular Song and that the tribute will be held at the White House and televised by PBS. You may have seen the Stevie Wonder ceremony last year which was also held at the White House. The article...

Re: New version of Elviscostello.com

Nice analysis, Connor, as always. I was waiting for you to weigh in. I appreciate your continuing to beat the drum for a move into imaginative marketing by Elvis using the internet. I have to admit to being disappointed so far by this new site redesign. The videos are all old, the exclusive songs ar...

Re: Elvis & The Sugarcanes, Atlanta (GA), April 26, 2010

Wow! Different Finger! Only played live once before that we know of, right, ANCT? March 7, 1981? I read in Beyond Belief (issue 12, page 15) that it was also played January 20, 1981 in Nashville, but I guess there aren't any tapes for that one. Oh, yes, the elusive Nashville show. You're right, no ...

Re: MP3 of "Lucky Dog"

At the DC show, Elvis gave a long intro to this, said he found the song on the B side of a 45 he bought in Fort Lauderdale. Said it was written and sung by a Sergeant Larry Singer (I think he said Singer) and that Lucky, the dog, was famous and appeared on the cover of Life magazine (presumably in t...

Re: Hip-O Records will release Pomp & Pout by Elvis on June

At the Sugarcanes shows, there was a strange red T-shirt for sale that (I think) had a drawing of a man embracing a woman from behind and, in nearly illegilble lettering, this lyric: "in the fashionable nightclubs and finer precincts, Man uses words to dress up his vile instincts" So presu...

Before I Grow Too Old

Saw EC and the 'Canes in DC and NY, great shows. He did a cover I'd never heard of so I did some research to find out the origin. "Before I Grow Too Old" was written by New Orleans' own Bobby Charles, who also wrote "Walking to New Orleans" and "See You Later, Alligator.&quo...

Doesn't Anybody Tape Shows Anymore?

Frustrating to see setlists with new songs and interesting old songs, and nary a recording to be found. Even the cellphones seem to be pretty dormant, just a couple of YouTube videos (and they always tape the same tunes....). Ah for the good old days when most shows were taped by some enterprising p...

Re: Elvis Costello As a 10 year old picture? (R.Whites)

Elvis appeared in one of the TV ads, probably in his late teens. It was shown several years ago on a BBC show about famous commercials, Elvis had long hair and was part of the band backing Chagrin and singing "R Whites, R Whites".

Re: Elvis on Prairie Home Companion - Live in HD-February 4,2010

It seemed like an original, he introduced it as a brand new song about a very old tragedy, or something like that. It was very wordy. Elvis was very animated in the skits. He took off his glasses to read the long skits. In the first one (the Guy Noir skit) he was a seedy travel agent booking cruises...

Re: Elvis on Prairie Home Companion - Live in HD-February 4,2010

Elvis acted in 2 skits, sang a verse in another bit, and did four songs: That's How You Got Killed Before, a brand new song (set in 1937, something about forgotten man, indifferent nation, and Lancashire Station?), Poisoned Rose, and Sneaky Feelings (with three female backing vocalists!) All perform...
