Re: What live versions of songs do you prefer to the studio

I always thought "Shabby Doll" was much stronger live. The fantastic version with Fiona Apple being a great example.

Re: Macca/Elvis

I always really liked Paul's drummIng on "Band on the Run". There's a famous story about Keith Moon asking Paul who the great drummer was on Band on the Run. Paul was very proud to say that he was.

I can't even imagine David Crosby doing "Almost Ideal Eyes", whom it was initially written for; but I would love to hear it.

Re: songs Elvis should retire (if he hasn't already)

I can agree on some of these songs. It is getting difficult to do Alison in a new way. But having recently seen Elvis live, I must say that Watching the Detectives still has some life in it. And, Alibi was great live; I forgot how good the song was. Sulphur To Sugarcane suffers from the same problem...

Re: Elvis/Imposters/ Wellmont Theater, NJ, Oct.6 '11

The Howlin' Wolf set w/Hubert Sumlin was amazing, especially Shake for Me - EC on harmonica and reverb vocals. I felt like I was actually hearing Howlin' Wolf for a second. Other highlights: Riot Act with an amazing close - it actually made me think of Pink Floyd at their best. Purple Rain, Poison M...

Re: Pete's best work?

I have to agree about "13 Steps Lead Down". I didn't think it was possible to have melodic drumming.

I also have to mention Pete's fantastic Ringo imitation in the middle of "Home Is Anywhere You Hang Your Head"

A great classic that I can just imagine Elvis doing with Steve Nieve:

Re: 'Sparkling Day' by Elvis on soundtrack for 'One Day' Aug

It never ceases to amaze me with Elvis Costello's songs; the first time I heard "Sparkling Day", I did not care for it at all. I warmed up to it on the second listen; and by the third - I'm totally hooked. I felt this exact same way most recently with "The Spell that You Cast", w...

Re: In praise of Momofuku

Weird coincidence a minute ago: I am shuffling a bunch of Elvis' best while doing a crossword. "Pardon Me Madam..." started and I was thinking how good Momofuku actually is, and the clue in the crossword at the same time was "a five letter word for a Japanese noodle dish" (RAMEN)...

Has Elvis Ever Discussed His Weight Loss Publically?

Initially I was worried about his health, but he seems fine now.
Dieting must be a little more difficult for Elvis since he is a vegetarian. An Atkins-like diet, which helped me loose 90 lbs., would be really tough.

Re: Beacon tix presale is open

Just bought my ticket for the 22nd. Second balcony seemed to be the best I could do at this late date - but at least I'm in the first row so I should be able to see.

I wish though that The Sugarcanes were involved as well. I regret not being able to see Elvis and them live.

I was surprised to hear "45" playing in "Bob's Store" the other day. Not a song that you would expect to be playing in a big, sports clothing store.

Re: Mansbridge One On One broadcast this weekend

It's so nice on occasions like this when Elvis really shows his intellect and articulate nature. He usually does take on the role of the jester and infuses humor into his dialog so much that he isn't taken seriously enough in his discourse. So it is nice to see a laid-back, lengthy interview with hi...

I think he should go gray and get slim, steel rim glasses for a different look. He could go around wearing a white suit maybe.

I agree with everyone else, but I have give a shout out to "That's not the Part of Him I'm Leaving". Plus "The Spell that You Cast" gets better and better everytime.
I must say, this album has many stand outs.

I agree completely; Elvis' vocals are just amazing.

For me, one of the best examples of this is "Stations of the Cross". He has such a beautiful, incredibly flexible voice.

I agree completely. I was at the Tarrytown show and both Nick and GP were awesome. Gorgeous theater as well.
I hadn't bought GP's last album, Imaginary Television. But, the new songs in his set were fantastic. I just bought the album on Amazon a minute ago.

My first Elvis gig was on the "Spike" tour. Lake Componce Amusement Park in Bristol, CT on August, 15, 1989. I had really good seats and It was an amazing concert. I saw him again up there on the MLAR tour - even more amazing concert, in a completely different way. I miss the venue; they d...
