Re: Bright Blue Times, not the song but the fan magazine
This was my website! Thanks for remembering it. The song came first, thought it was the most obscure song I could've picked, or close to it, at the time. He had recorded it for a TV movie, played the demo on Irish radio (my cousin taped it for me) and I also had a bootleg of a concert in Italy where...

Re: Look Now: new album announced!
It's interesting how a selective metric has been used for two of Costello's biggest "breaks" to measure how long it has been since his last record. When WIWC was released, the standard line was that it had been 6 years since his last "rowdy" record, 1996's All This Useless Beauty...

Re: Look Now: new album announced!
This album is a dream come true-- if you search this fan forum for my name and "Burnt Sugar," you will find a ton of posts dating back a decade where all I do is wish for an orchestral pop album with The Imposters where they record both "Burnt Sugar Is So Bitter" and "Suspec...

Re: New Elvis/Burt Bacharach songs!!
I personally would love to hear The Imposters be the main band on any new EC/BB album. I'd also love it if EC had a heavier hand in some of the orchestrations. One of my favorite Imposters tracks is the NORTH bonus track, "Impatience" which shows off a side of The Imposters that he hasn't ...

Re: It's official..."brilliant new album"
I would say it's also possible that we could be looking at Kojak Variety Vol. 2, but that's just me maybe reading too much into his tweets of various LP covers (Sinatra, Beach Boys, Butterfield Blues Band, etc) amidst all his cryptic photos from the recording studio... If I had a wish beyond "j...

Re: Reissue catalogue in a mess?
EC in the late 90s spoke of the idea of destroying his master tapes in the year 2000. He was half-joking, but in many ways Universal managed to just about do the same amount of damage in terms of utterly bungling the Live releases and making the back catalog completely boring in the aftermath of the...

Re: New Elvis song in "Film Stars Don't Die In Liverpool"
I think EC's "third act" as a recording artist was the Universal Years plus his 2 LPs for Hear Music, ending with NR. I think we are in the Epilogue now. Unless something changes, we are in the part where he only makes records when someone else makes it happen, but never because he himself...

Re: 'Bright Blue Times' - vinyl single - 500 on sale at latest shows, June 2017
On the one hand, I hope that this is the first of many self-released Lupe-O-Tone records. On the other, I hope that Costello will make them slightly less scarce if this pressing of 500 sells out as it undoubtedly will. There is a fine line between fun and torturing fans. Or maybe torturing fans is p...

Re: 'Bright Blue Times' - vinyl single - 500 on sale at latest shows, June 2017
Considering that I loved this song so much I named my Costello website after it back in 1998, I will take this marketing strategy personally if I don't wind up acquiring one of these singles.

IbMePdErRoIoAmL setlists - will all the songs make the cut by NYC?
So far, what are we missing, "Little Savage" and "Boy With A Problem"? Do you think these will emerge by the final night in NYC, or does EC not wanna play those songs? What about the other b-sides? I would not have predicted that we'd ever hear "Seconds Of Pleasure" whi...

Re: Elvis & The Imposters play Dublin, July 16th 2016
Of course, the smart money is on him never, ever making another album with The Imposters-- he's been pretty consistent since quitting records in 2010, only going into the studio when others lure him (Roots & T-Bone)-- but there was also the time when he took a pretty definitive-seeming public st...

Re: Elvis's Worst Song And Why
This is a side question, but sort of related: which EC album do you *like* while also totally understanding why so many others *don't* like it? For instance, I love MLAR and truly am baffled by people who dislike it. However, I also really like SP&S but I TOTALLY get why, for a lot of EC fans, i...

Re: Elvis's Worst Song And Why
I'm not sure I'd be confident enough to label any of my Least Favorite Costello songs as "horrible" or wretched or say the drumming by Pete Thomas is bad, etc. There are 3 songs I don't really care for, and skip way more often than I would choose to let them play if they came up in shuffle...

Re: My Flame Burns Blue - vinyl debut on BLUE VINYL , June 2016
I received mine today in the mail and it's LOVELY. Admittedly, the blank 4th side of vinyl makes it extra annoying that they didn't take the opportunity to make this an expanded edition with the previously released bonus tracks (and maybe even a few additional songs from those North Sea Jazz Festiva...

Re: "I might do something expectedly..."
Yeah, my example of him hypothetically deciding to release a song a day wasn't about wanting him to work harder-- in fact, if anything, I'd kind of like to see him ease up on the grueling tour schedule, given that it wasn't too many years ago that EC's doctor recommended that he needed to stop doing...

Re: "I might do something expectedly..."
It's strange how much EC has never really clicked with the whole "Internet" thing-- way back in the 90s, he was suspicious of it from the start, and never really has caught up in the way one would have imagined he might. EC in the early days was always so creative with the ways he looked f...

Re: Elvis on soundtrack to 'Vinyl' TV series, April 2016
Weird, it's playing fine for me! It's also on Spotify and $1.29 on iTunes-- it's a more straightforward rendering of the O'Jays song than the version we're familiar with from it's mash-up with "King Horse" on the 1983 Punch The Clock tour, but it's still great fun hearing Costello dig in t...

What does his solo version of "Lipstick Vogue" sound like? I don't think I've ever heard him do this one solo, was he doing this solo back in 1984, or is this a relatively new solo arrangement?

Re: Elvis guesting on Clover reunion album , 2016
This sounds great!
Maybe it's my imagination but I almost sense a hit of Elvis channeling a tiny bit of 1977-Elvis in his vocal here. Just a playful hint of it, around 0:35 when the band kicks in. Anybody else here that?
