I'd take the live version of "Just About Glad" from the Costello-Nieve live boxset over the studio version. The lyrics are sung with much more passion & humour on the live version. EC sounds like he's really enjoying himself singing it.

a belated Valentine's day question

I was having a discussion with my wife the other day about how very few of other favourite singers (e.g. EC, Nick Cave, Radiohead, Bjork) have any songs with the words "I love you" in. The only EC example we could think of was the "P.P.S.I.L.O.V.E.Y.O.U" thing on The Loved Ones. ...

Wow. That looks fantastic.
if it not's a stupid question (and it probably is) how can I get a copy of those discs?
I have quite a bit of EC live stuff to trade if that's the right way of doing it.

Elvis covers question

I was just wondering if anyone out there could give me some info on who did the original versions of certain songs that Elvis has covered. I own the Good Years for the Roses compilation which I love. Isn't it about time someone released a volume 2 of that? Or has anyone on this list created their ow...

My Science Fiction Twin

the lyric that goes "they asked how in the world he does all these things & he answered 'superbly' "
And the fact that the title reminds me of my favourite author Philip K Dick (Elvis is also a fan).

Earl Palmer & Elvis

I was reading a website about Earl Palmer, legendary drummer who played on all the best known songs by Eddie Cochran, Little Richard, Ray Charles & a host of others. Anyway, it said on the website [ http://www.drummerworld.com/drummers/Earl_Palmer.html ] that he'd played with Elvis Costello. I d...

Neil wrote: and I also think the verse melody "He thought he was the king of America..." sounds like the strings break in a Marvin Gaye song - I can't remember which, but I can hear it now in my head. never noticed that before but yes, it's exactly the same first notes as the string melody...

first one that's springs to mind is the "oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh" bit at the end of the middle eight of Blue Chair which is a direct lift of the "oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh" bit at the end of the middle eight on "Anna (Go To Him)" by Arthur Alexander (also covered by the Beatles)

Looking forward very much to going to see Roger in Manchester in October. Saw him a few years ago at the Jazz Cafe in Camden and I can highly recommend it as a night out. He sings & plays brilliantly (but then you already knew that) but he also has a good line in onstage chat & banter.

I quite liked the film, it was silly & weird.

Just one question, is there any EC connection to the film apart from the character's name? Are the filmmakers EC fans or was it just an enormous coincidence?
