*FATHER FINDS DAUGHTER'S BODY WITH SUICIDE NOTE ATTACHED WHEN RAILROAD BOY MISTREATS HER* I'm particularly impressed that this press release quotes word-for-word Harry Smith's original "headline" synopsis of the song, found in the liner notes to THE ANTHOLOGY OF AMERICAN FOLK MUSIC ! Thes...

EC & the Imposters play remarkably few songs from this record considering its elevated status. Surely a lot of the layered vocals would sound good live now that Davey's in the band. I can't think of a song I'd rather hear them do than The Loved Ones (except maybe Radio Sweetheart). Offhand, I c...

Re: Elvis all over Uncut ( Aug. '06)

[quote="johnfoyle"]Elvis appears in a number of features in the August issue of Uncut.

However, Costello did join in the studio party mood. Dammers remembers him falling off his chair at one point and brandishing the master tape of Joe Jackson’s “It’s Different For Girlsâ€

Re: Duet with Roy Orbison

This year alone, Legacy will reissue Orbison's entire Sun and Monument catalogs. Titles from the Jewel, MGM and Virgin catalogs will follow. Plans include a remastered version of Orbison's final studio album, 1989's "Mystery Girl" A very logical place for the Van Dyke Parks orchestral arr...

We must be pretty close to having a complete list of songs: 1. All These Things 2. The River In Reverse (Costello original) 3. Who's Gonna Help Brother Get Further? 4. Freedom For The Stallion 5. With You In Mind 6. What Do You Want The Girl To Do? 7. Ascension Day (adaptation of Tipitina with new ...

I'd agree with Dr Luther that there is probably enough material to justify at least a two disc set. The missing Wendy James demos alone could form it's core, before even beginning to tap the UNLOVED SONGS-type material and the missing rarities that didn't appear on the Rhino reissues. Could record c...

In the new issue of ICE magazine, the release date of this CD is listed as Feb 24th.

Incidentally, they also state that the EC/Allen Toussaint disc can probably be expected sometime in May.

The reason that they're re-doing an Elvis best of so soon after the last one is that it's exactly the same except for the front cover. Apparently the designers never got permission from the photographer when they put together the artwork for the last best of, so they had to pay out a lot of money a...

Yeah, there are three completely different versions of the song. If you really like it, you're going to want them all. Not to mention the fact that when the song made it's live debut, it was as a piano ballad. None of the studio records that have been release reflect this arrangement, which some fa...

His take on The Band's "Stage Fright" is cool. Yeah, that is a nice rendition. Seeing that the Warfield '84 shows were professionally recorded (and filmed, for an unaired MTV special, if I recall correctly!) and other tracks from it were used on the Ryko/Demon GOODBYE CRUEL WORLD reissue,...
