Re: When was your first Elvis gig?

Southampton March 1981, then Albert Hall in December of the same year. After that I tried to attend at least three dates of every UK tour, usually, Bournemouth Bristol and London. Have just 'clocked up' No.54 during recent tour, (should have been 55, but Basingstoke was cancelled).

Re: I'm 12 years old and OBSESSED with Elvis Costello.

When I was 12 years old It was Bowie, Roxy Music and T.Rex that first fired my imagination, prevoiusly I had been interested in Sparks and Wizzard. My Costello phase didn't come until I left school and went to college and when I first heard Red Shoes that was it. This was 1977 mind you.

Not sure that I understand Zoe and the saxophone reference, surely Chet was on trumpet.

Re: Favorite Elvis Costello Song?

Like Roofdog, I once would have said Sleep of the Just, but now it's That's not the part of him you're leaving. Quite similar in the structure of the song very passionate regarding a love that might have been and the way he recounts and unfolds a story about how an individual has repressed a desire ...

Re: Elvis (solo) plays Brussels , May 31'12

Sounds like a great evening. I should have been there but the Cirque Royal could not give me a definitive answer as to whether or not the ticket I (still have) from November's postponed show would still be valid, and I could not afford to lose out on a second set of Eurostar tickets and hotel accomm...

I've still got my ticket from Novembers cancelled/anulled Cirque Royale gig, do you think that would be honoured at the re-scheduled gig later this week ?

Re: Elvis/The Imposters, Basingstoke 27 May '12

I'm sure he will re-schedule as I would imagine that a venue like the Anvil is quite a nice change from the larger 'barns'. I guess that the new date will have to be part of another leg of the Revolver tour as otherwise it would mean transporting the Wheel, bar and cage for a one-off rather than hav...

Bournemouth photos help ?

My wife and I were fortunate enough to be selected for the "Happy couple" wheel spin at the B.I.C. last Sunday. As we were both on stage at the same time we have no photographic record of this event. If anyone who attended has any shots, we would really love to see them. We do of course ap...

Re: stage times

Bournemouth was an 8.10 start and the 2 hours 45 mins of brilliant entertainment.
I think that local authority curfew laws in residential areas mean that gigs have to be finished by 11.00pm

Re: Elvis/Imposters, Bournemouth, May 20, 2012

It was good to read the post by Adrian. My wife and I were sitting next to him and were fortunate enough to be selected for a wheel spin. He is right about Elvis constantly chewing something, I think it may have been some form of menthol gum as we could smell it on his breath. It seemed he was chewi...

Re: Other artists' songs that remind you of EC

The Wet Wet Wet reference was quite apt. I seem to remember that there was some minor legal wrangle concerning Mr. Pellow 'lifting' whole sections of Town Crier and claiming them as his own.

Re: Why can't Elvis and the boys do a proper bow?

Depends what fits the occasion, I've seen him at a Brodsky Quartet gig and he has given a perfectly gentlemanly 'sign off ' bow. Even on some of his solo tours the final bow is usually clearly stating that he is appreciative of the audience response

Re: What do you believe attracts you to EC over other artist

What attracts me is that he doesn't still live in 1976/77 and that he is keen to progress and move on. Sure, he'll do the crowd pleasers, but he now has a 35 year catalogue of progression. So many of my friends and associates seem to have a narrow window of musical enjoyment and will harp back to th...

Re: Getting stuff signed after show

Like Slanders, I have been attending his gigs for 35 years. It will be my 60th time seeing him next month, (I've got 4 UK shows lined up). I have never met the man or hung around after a gig for a signing but recently this has been something that has crossed my mind, so maybe, after reading these po...
