Re: Mary Burgoyne

I filmed Mary interviewing Townes Van Zandt in the mid 90's for a doc about him that never got completed, though some of the other material shot for it was used in the later cinema release film about him, 'Be Here To Love Me'. There's a picture of him and Mary from around that time here http://www.t...

Perhaps Motel Matches? This sounds like a very intriguing gig tonight, imagining a lot of surprises, looking forward to the reports.

Re: The Eagles

Thanks Man Out, interesting stuff after seeing them spin at RAH. Are Elvis's meetings with politicians properly minuted? He'd be an excellent turn at the Leveson Enquiry, which I've been following as much as Elvis has - I don't want to miss any of THAT evidence either. For those of us who lived thro...

Re: 10 years of the Imposters

I first saw the Imposters at the tail end of Elvis's Meltdown gig that year, the main portion of which consisted of Elvis on his own playing around with samples on lesser celebrated old songs and as yet unreleased WIWC material which left my wife convinced the great man was having a public mid life ...

Re: Elvis/The Imposters, Basingstoke 27 May '12

Having seen three shows last week inc Cambridge I'd not be too surprised if Elvis woke up frankly feeling a little bit flattened on Sunday morning - if he will insist on spending 3 hours most nights pitting his voice against the aural storm of the Imps... I'm very sad for our friends in Basingstoke ...

It was the closer or near closer on each night, as I recall. The show's themselves weren't a patch on the soon to follow Shepherd's Bush ones though.

Re: Elvis/The Imposters, Cambridge May 26 '12

Hi Pigalle, Buzz, Roofs and Fishfingers, I thought RAH2 was a cracker as well, really my views of Cambridge are coloured though by the fact I was with my good lady wife (a rare night out together away from the brood) and experiencing the show together, with all the fun of the wheel and the incredibl...

Re: Elvis/The Imposters, Cambridge May 26 '12

Great show, best of the three (inc two Albert Halls) I've been to. Being a mainly standing venue it made for a great Saturday night atmosphere which seemed to totally affect our beloved entertainers. Kind of a relief not to have any special guests, it was just EC giving it all. More spins than earli...

Re: Elvis/Imposters - Royal Albert Hall 24th May 2012

Great show last night, sound was better, Elvis not holding back with his voice so much, Imps on blistering form, a lot more surprises in the set list and spins (for me at any rate). The friends I took along were gratifying knocked out by the band's fire and inventiveness, not to mention the refreshi...

Re: Elvis/The Imposters, London, May 23 2012

Great to see Elvis and the Imps in fine form. Elvis just managed to keep his voice intact but the sound was an awful mush though (Beyond Belief really suffered on that count). Russell Crowe was a bit ridiculous, there for his movie stardom rather than his chops (Nick Lowe would not approve, neither ...

Re: 'a definitive documentary portrait of Elvis', Nov '11

Hi John, I've not been in the right places lately to hear any chatter about this and I'd never dared suggest a doc the couple of times I've met Elvis, though I'd love to be in Kidel's position! Whenever I've suggested EC to the BBC in years before they've said anyone in his position would want too m...

Re: Pete's best work?

Sorry ahawkman, eulogising Pete's sticks work I forgot that you were asking about stuff to stimulate a 12 year old skin batterer. In which case I'd recommend Leave My Kitten Alone from the Blood & Chocolate re-release - an easy drum part, played as full on as he likes and great fun, which should...

Re: Pete's best work?

Pete's hangover work on Beyond Belief is undoubtedly transformative of the track - and it's a story he deservedly loves to tell. However my personal favourite among his amazing body of work for EC though consists of one moment in Home Is Anywhere You Hang Your Head. I don't have it on me to quote mi...

Re: 'a definitive documentary portrait of Elvis', Nov '11

It would turn up on BBC4 if they've put up a portion of the money. I'm guessing it would be longer than an hour as EC has a lot of history. The main thing would probably be a DVD release, then TV, rather like the George Harrison doc at the moment. A big question would be how much trust and freedom E...

Re: Do you enjoy the Wendy James Demos ?

I love the Wendy James demos - the whole song cycle is very much EC's Ziggy Stardust and, as with a few of his reissue extra tracks, hearing him get stuff down on tape at home is a real insight. I even liked Wendy's LP Now Ain't The Time For Your Tears Babe somewhat, at least I'm not as harsh about ...

Re: Has Elvis Ever Discussed His Weight Loss Publically?

Hi Deportee, yes I remember 40 and weight gain too! I don't think it's quite fair to say 'poisonous' or 'toxic' marriage - they were both grown up and did what they did for each other whatever they did for 15 years or so and in the main part that's their business (I don't mind reading about or refle...

Re: Has Elvis Ever Discussed His Weight Loss Publically?

Perhaps the fear of some smartass journo dubbing him 'The Walrus Of Spite' motivated all that gym activity... But how did he come to gain it all anyway? He did quite literally balloon between Brutal Youth and Useless Beauty, to the extent that I presumed it was something medical, or that he'd taken ...

Just to add that I'd urge anyone in the NY vicinity to go to this show - it might just change your life, he lifts the spirits by telling it how it is. Although Mose's age (he turned 83 last week) is showing a little in his singular piano playing he remains a unique and wonderful artist, with a songb...

Wow, never seen him do Leave My Kitten but I remember him playing Slow Down with the reformed Attractions at the Shepherd's Bush Empire.
