Damn! That sounds like a ton of fun! I'm sorry I'm going to miss it.
Clams Casino? Jo Boobs? Nasty Canasta? Those are the greatest stripper names ever!!!! They sound like Tom Waits characters.

Re: CD or LP?

I love Goodbye Cruel World, but I have the vinyl not the CD - I'll have to seek out the bonus, thanks. Yes, absolutely get it--you won't be sorry. It has some really great-sounding home demos, a bunch of live tracks, a duet w/ Nick Lowe, Elvis singing w/ Madness & tons more. And Elvis' voice is...

Re: Elvis Costello superfan Nick Jonas sits down with his idol

“I mean, just one song from someone like that can teach you so much. I Don’t Want to Go to Chelsea is one of those songs. I can’t listen to it enough.” I guess it's nice to see that Nick has some awareness of actual music and perhaps isn't entirely the creation of the various corporate monoliths re...

Re: REVIEWS: Secret, Profane and Sugarcane

The Word review, by Paul Du Noyer, starts ' Elvis Costello has made an immaculate piece of Deep South "Victoriana"...' so he seems to like it. I remember when I saw Elvis with the PECO Pops Orchestra in Philadelphia in 2007--right before he sang the un-amplified version of Couldn't Call i...

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Glenn Tilbrook & The Fluffers "Pandemonium Ensues". Liking it a lot! Saw him w/ Steve Nieve @ City Winery in NY a few weeks ago and he sounded so great! "Best of Times" is like a wonderful Squeeze song w/ Cajun spice and the Johnny Depp-narrated "Too Close to the Sun&quo...

Re: CD or LP?

Love those Rhinos! They sound great to me, anyway. And Elvis' expanded liner notes are fun to read and give the music some add'l context. The bonus CDs contain some real gems. For example, I'm sure everyone agrees that Goodbye Cruel World is kind of a stinkfest, but the bonus CD is wonderful--like a...

Wow!
That's some bus! Is it the bus in the New Amsterdam Video? It's pretty amazing on the inside. The decor is 1/2 Ski Lodge and 1/2 Whorehouse.
What a great way to travel!

Re: "I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!"

Yeah. He seems surprisingly patient and brave about putting up with cringe-inducing situations (he was friendly and polite to that retarded succubus Kathy-Lee Gifford on The Today Show a couple of months ago), but there have got to be limits.

Re: Lipstick?

It doesn't work perfectly, but you can sort of do that on the wiki site if you choose "advanced search" and select only the "template" namespace. Wow! Thanks! It's wild to see the list--it's pretty big. I think there are more, though--songs where he talks about lipstick more eup...

Re: Lipstick?

Good observation. In a more general way, he seems to mention makeup quite a lot, even in his choice of covers ('No More Tear Stained Makeup' and the way he drops a line from 'Say a Little Prayer' into 'I Want You'). You're right! Good point. When I heard Elvis sing No More Tear stained Make-up on S...

Lipstick?

If this is a topic you guys have already talked to death I apologize, but it's something I've been wondering about for a long time... I'm sure you've noticed how Elvis comes back to certain images again and again--roses, high heels, long fingernails, eyelashes, birds etc. But clearly nothing gets as...

I think "Girls Talk" might be good. Possibly also "Veronica" and "Next Time Round".

Re: New Member--Hello

Thanks to everyone for the nice welcome!! Yes, Otis, the musical vibe around here is much better than it used to be. The spouse actually does dig Elvis--considers him to be both a genius and a true Rock & Roll Badass. And I can't tell you how happy I am that the decades-long barrage of constant ...

New Member--Hello

Hi Everybody! I'm new here--just wanted to say hello & introduce myself. I've loved Elvis' music since I first heard it years and years ago (that magical voice sucked me in right away), but I guess I became a more ardent fan about 2 years ago, I suppose as part of a mid-life crisis. I suddenly n...
