Re: Liverpool Philharmonic Hall 10 June 2022
It sounds as if the sound problems were worse for some than others. We were near the front off to the left, and although there was a subtle difference to the lead vocals, it wasn’t that noticeable and no-one around us was complaining. It seems most of the complaints/ heckling was from middle stalls ...

This was a step up from the Glasgow gig in my book. Seemed in good form and played 8.45 till nearly 11. Apologized for a substandard, illness affected performance back in 2018 and seemed to want to make up for it. Voice seems in better shape than recently - no gum chewing and accepted the restrictio...

Re: Elvis & The Imposters, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, June 7, 2022
Was quiet where I was! Pending sulky’s setlist, we did have a few changes from Brighton. Started at 8.45. Different songs included Indoor Fireworks, which I thought didn’t work in a new arrangement, Newspaper Pane which worked very well with the Imposters, We Are All Cowards Now and Mr & Mrs Hus...

BA - I have the 10 disc set and the back of the box doesn’t have the extra Purse tracks on it, just the original tracks. So no help in distinguishing, I’m afraid.

Re: Every record ranked…
these things are always dumb. what's better, plums or pears? they are both sweet and delicious, sometimes i want a plum, sometimes a pear. No - plums are much better. I hate pears. Thus illustrating the point. You either have individual lists which will always have quirks like hating pears. Or an e...

Re: The Boy Named If, new album by Elvis & The Imposters, January 14, 2022
That’s trying to avoid hyperbole!!!!? It’s an extremely good album and more than we deserve at 67. EC album of the millennium? Fair enough. But better than This Year’s Model, Get Happy!!, Imperial Bedroom and King of America? There are no duds on Boy Named If - all solid 7 to 8/10 tracks. However no...

Re: EC & The Imposters with Charlie Sexton - UK Tour, June 2022
Yes the tickets were expensive but the way I look at it, one day it won't be possible to go and see EC anymore and I'll still be wishing I'd seen him more times. Exactly the way I look at it. When the end comes (as it will for all of us, ultimately) will we want to look back and say 'wasn't it grea...

Re: Relatively Insignificant EC Stuff. . .
Quiz night on BBC2 had 2 Elvis references last night! Only Connect (the best quiz ever) had Attraction on a wall along with Banshee, Supreme and Shadow - singular backing bands. University Challenge had Stiff releases in a music round - they correctly got Elvis Costello but failed to identify Nick L...

I went to see Nick Lowe at Nells in West Kensington last night, in lieu of seeing EC. Nick played both Heart of the City and PLU - in rather different versions, of course, but still excellent. On my way there I passed a pharmacy and a closed down shop that a sign told me was the site of the Nashvill...

Thanks. So it looks like the book is the size of a CD case (and comes with a CD inside) rather than an LP sized book that contains the vinyl inside. What's the difference between the CD book at £39.99 and the CD book with CD at £43.99? Do you get 2 CDs with the second? If so, why? The descriptions ...

Re: How Deep Is The Red?
Prior to its release I was looking forward to Secret, Profane and Sugarcane. EC doing bluegrass sounded like a good idea and the concert excerpts with the Sugarcanes sounded fun. However, the album leaves me cold emotionally and I hardly ever play it. I’m not sure what it is but it never hit home fo...

Re: "La Face de Pendule à Coucou" EP (French versions of Hey Clockface songs)
I tend to be midway between the two extreme responses we’ve seen to this. I think you can be both impressed with Elvis’s invention, songwriting and output at 66 and still appreciate that this is hardly essential. Having listened once I don’t think I’ll buy a physical version (unless very cheap - for...

I had my No Flag single arrive in Norwich just over a week ago, Sulky. Post everywhere in UK is terrible, though, at the moment. Perhaps Devon is particularly bad. Mine had a tracking number on the email. Could try that?
