Re: Allen Toussaint

AT just bleeds good feeling. The last two times I saw him the DC area he was brilliant. Also agree about his latest jazz disc.

Paul McCartney Live Sound?

Last evening I went the PM show in DC. The sounds was amazing. In a way almost too amazing. Is there some type of vocal / instrumental enhancement going on? Is he singing over prerecorded tracks? Most of my experience is with lower end acts. EC is about is big time as I get but he doesn't appear to ...

Re: Bonnaroo Webcast tonight 6/13

yeah, a great little varied set considering it was one of the hardest nights i've ever witnessed for him vocally. was that JENNY's band completely for GO AWAY & PLU? Yes he really struggled again vocally. Very similar to the WT vocal performance. Hopefully he will get it back on track as the to...

Re: EC & Sugarcanes at Wolf Trap, June 11 '09

Sounds like the Wolf Trap concert was a step down from the Beacon show, but people really should make an effort to understand what kind of concert they are going to get before they decide to come. It was never going to be a greatest hits revue. I think if he was in better voice it might have helped...

Re: EC & Sugarcanes at Wolf Trap, June 11 '09

yes, having seen the first two shows in relatively intimate indoor surroundings, and with a good seat each night, i was VERY fearful that it would NOT translate well into ANY outdoor amphitheatre that i've been too. gotta disagree about the AT shows being as good as it gets. they ALL have their own...

Re: EC & Sugarcanes at Wolf Trap, June 11 '09

Yes he mentioned something about breathing the bad NYC air. I think the show was tough for casual fans that frequent these open air shows. Also the sound wasn't always dynamic. Hard to match his last show at WT with the great AT. That was about as good as it gets.

I was talking about small to midsize venues. The sound at the AT shows were excellent. Better than usual IMHO.

Unfortunately, as in way too many of his shows over the years, the sound system during EC's show left a lot to be desired. He practically kicked one of his guitar techies at one point as he struggled to give directions in mid song. This was yet another EC show where it was difficult, once again, to...

Carlin was a true master. In a class by himself. Saw him on his last tour. He was looking pretty bad but still put on a great show. He had a few heart attacks over the years. I guess his luck finally ran out. RIP!

Re: American Gangster Time

The ending is great especially the organ riff. As I mentioned in a different thread it reminds me of something I heard a women's college bball game to get the fans up and going. I don't remember hearing this riff in the live version from last year. Is it now?

The organ rift at the end of AGT sounds really familiar. Something I heard at a sporting event (women's basketball) to get the crowd going. Any thoughts?

The Unicorn Times was the Washington, DC music weekly at that time. They might have had a review of the show. Yeah, I have their preview of the show, it concentrated on his earlier December show in Philly. I can't find anything reviewing the DC show from them in my stack though. Wow that is great y...

Let's see if the new reissue leaves in the drunken guy who shouted, after Elvis finished the song and said Goodnight, "You son of a bitch!Come baaaaaaack!" Rhino used my reel to reel tape of the FM broadcast for their version, and edited that guy out. Craig posts to listserv- It's there. ...
