Is it just you! The devine Aly never mails it in. FedExes...sure. UPS..on occasion. But never mail! (And what about see the one with the creepy monster thing nibbling at her belly? That wasn't even e-mail!)

It definitely counted when I first saw the movie in 199_? (or was it 198_??) Of course, turns out Sofia Coppola is an EC fan, so that explains that.

EC just keeps getting referenced on the tube....

From Monday's "The Colbert Report" -- In reference to scientists putting glasses on flies, Stephen says that he'll never look at Elvis C. the same way again. It definitely works better with the visuals.

Just saw an episode of "Veronica Mars" from awhile back, "Wallace and Rashad Go to White Castle". (It's recorded on my DVR...on literally months/years behind on all the dramatic shows I watch) Anyhow, someone karoekes to, you guessed it, "Veronica." Unfortunately, not t...

I had a terrible crush on Rachel Sweet at the time based largely on the back cover photo and was lucky enough to hear her open (a little too far back to really see her) for Graham Parker & the Rumour at my very first real concert. Before doing "Stranger in the House" she proclaimed Elv...

Sorry about the duplication.

Obviously, I beg to differ...re: Gene, though I can see how he's not for the very schmaltz-averse. (I also wrote about this in my blog: http://forwardtoyesterday.com/2006/04/0 ... ne-pitney/)

RIP Gene Pitney

Was very sad to hear this -- he was only 65. If you've never heard some of this guy's lesser known recordings, like my personal favorite "Mecca", you're missing something. And what's wrong with being moderately over-the top, anyway. http://today.reuters.co.uk/news/newsArticle.aspx?type=ent...

Strikes me as an extreme example of American puritanism run pathetically amok. And we liberals are the ones always being accussed of being for "a nanny state"... Of course, this is a state which until fairly recently, as I recall, allowed drive-through daiquiris and drinking-and-driving (t...

El Vez is become God...I mean Robert Ryan. Anyhow, saw "Thank You for Smoking" and "Slither" this weekend and, for very different reasons, recommend both. Aside from being extremely funny, "Smoking" is a pretty interesting movie that you could probably discuss for hours...

Yeah, I'm leaning that way. Have you seen it? As ever, no but it's a brave move to film it, and it's one of the great comic books, and Michael Winterbottom + Steve Coogan is a great combo,, as evidenced by 24hrptyppl, and a friend with good taste liked it. Trust me? Haven't seen either film, though...

Hey, in Waylon's autobiography he talked about how children *love* Roger Miller's music. My first memories of him were as the minstrel troubadour in the animated Robin Hood (the one where Robin Hood & Maid Marian were foxes.....and more convincing as a couple than Costner and Mary Elizabeth Mas...

To my deeply American ear's EC's accent since the early nineties at least has been pretty much standard BBC stuff. The earlier stuff definitely had more of a working class sound to it (not quite Spike the Vampire, but not to far off either) -- but, to give the guy the benefit of the doubt, I think w...

However, it will always be one of my secret shames that I watched "Hee Haw" as a child...for the comedy and kind of ignored the music.

It's an interesting question how early in their career they have to be "great" to be considered. I know he's very respected as a drummer, but I've never heard enough early Genesis to have an opinion and as a solo act Phil Collins has put out one or two nicely atmosphere singles and a lot o...

El Vez has re-entered the building! Several of these films were, I'm fairly, quite successful but usually in modest, art-housy (or video sleeper) sort of a way. The only real shocker is "Very Bad Things" -- I movie I haven't seen but which was, as far as I can remember, was universally rev...
