Re: New album for 2013: "Wise Up Ghost" (with The Roots!)
Sounds like samples. It sure does. If so, this may not have been as farfetched as I thought: There's this Twitter exchange between producer Steven Mandel and EC, from a couple days ago: @ImposterSpeaks You know what they say? "Patience" is an opera by Gilbert and Sullivan. @StevenMandel ...

There's this Twitter exchange between producer Steven Mandel and EC, from a couple days ago: @ImposterSpeaks You know what they say? "Patience" is an opera by Gilbert and Sullivan. @StevenMandel @ImposterSpeaks And Impatience is a sample. I may be grasping at straws here, but could it be ...

Re: Steve Nieve'e new album has a June release date
I love Steve but that song is... not... good. The video seems to be a work in progress, featuring a loop of a extract from the song. Figured as much. I don't know how I feel about the song, based on the extract we've heard, but perhaps I should wait until I hear the whole thing. It just seems a lit...

Color me stoked. The one thing I dread about this collaboration is the inevitable dredging up of the Columbus incident by some itinerant youtube or HuffPost comment troll.

Re: A Case for Song: Tart
I think this is one of those songs that inspires (in my opinion, unwarranted) vitriol from some board members. I personally think it's wonderful, with a lovely melody. I don't know what it's about and honestly couldn't care less.

Re: Elvis on Diana's new album "Glad Rag Doll"
Beautiful album, though it ends on an oddly bleak note. I like Diana's singing. I think it serves the material well, both on this record and her usual catalogue of standards. I'm especially fond of her previous album, great after-hours listening that's not too ponderous, with some lush & lovely ...

From the youtube videos it looks like Pete's kit is isolated behind a sound shield. Was this being professionally recorded?

Re: Getting stuff signed after show
Good point about making sure you have a marker for the signing. Elvis is left-handed and ball point pens just do not work for him if the signing surface is being held up etc. , as happened to me after , I think, the second Metrople Orchestra show in Amsterdam. Really? I had no idea. Is it normal fo...

his own outrageous and recurring penchant for commercial self-destruction (Columbus, MLAR, SP & S, etc.). Not sure I follow. SP&S was his biggest commercial hit of the last 10 years. What about it constituted "commercial self-destruction"? Was it that the record included a bunch o...

Some of the performances are great, though. I love "Lipstick Vogue" and "Watching the Detectives", they came out scorching hot. "All Grown Up" is lovely.

Re: 'The Return Of The Spectacular Spinning Songbook', Nov.
I hate to be that guy, but I have a few things to say about the audio CD. I have not seen the DVD. I think it's sub-par. I think, first of all, the sound quality is horrible. It's mastered way too loud, with zero dynamic range. Here is the soundwave for "Heart of the City" from the audio C...

The mastering is awful. It's compressed and brickwalled and sounds terrible on these Sennheiser HD cans. What a disappointment.

3 out of those 4 songs I'd hesitate to call ballads, at least in the definition most people in this thread seem to be using... care to guess which ones?Jeremy Dylan wrote:I'd probably pip for Riot Act, Shipbuilding, Condemned Man and God's Comic.

Other artists' songs that remind you of EC
I was listening to the new album by indie punk band Bomb the Music Industry (I'm a huge fan) and was struck by how much their song "Vocal Coach" sounds like something out of This Year's Model or Armed Forces. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izdScR05MBg Are there any other songs from other a...

Elvis lines through Bad Translator
Bad Translator is a website that runs a line of text you enter through several rounds of translation and back to the original language, often resulting in gibberish and non-sequiturs. I've been having too much fun with it today. For example: From "No Action": "I don't wanna kiss you, ...
