Re: Elvis on Mary Anne Hobbs (BBC radio 6), Oktober 6 & 7, 2018

Wow, I found "Look Now" to be stunningly beautiful. I always thought that one of the most brilliant decisions with recording Painted From memory was having "the great" Jim Keltner on drums. His Ringo-like playing really cuts through the syrupy stereotype that Burt Bacharach had i...

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

It must be a music business tread now. Paul McCartney did the exact same thing with his new LP; two songs released really early, then one more released a few weeks early (Elvis is releasing Suspect My Tears on Sept 7th).

Re: 'Under Lime' piano accidentally quiet?

While I agree that the piano could be higher in the mix; it doesn’t get lost. Steve definely shines through. It could have been completely lost in this complicated mix. It reminds of Shabby Doll a little.
P.S. I love Davey’s very Bruce-like bass playing as well.

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

Well, if you preorder on looknow.elviscostello.com , you do get a September 7th download of "Suspect My Tears".

I'm really loving "Under Lime". It definitely hearkens back to Imperial Bedroom, but sounds so fresh at the same time.

Re: Banal fanboy list no 475: Elvis songs that sound a bit like other Elvis songs

Though the recording of Poisoned Rose on KoA is such a classic. Ray Brown & Earl Palmer!! Plus such a terrific vocal. The recording of TNTPOHYL sounds a little muted/muffled to me. T-Bone and his engineers got a lot of praise for NR, but I found some of the songs sounding too "compressed&qu...

Re: It's official..."brilliant new album"

I'm hoping a new album will be available in 24-bit on hdtracks.com; YSLAMTW is. This vinyl craze lately doesn't make much sense to me since they are using the 24-bit digital master to make the LP. Why not just buy the 24-bit master and not have to deal with the pops and scratches? Also, since they a...

Re: Elvis tweets photos from a recording session ? Feb. 2018

This reminds a little too much of the build-up for American Tune last July. I bet you it is a vinyl-only single for Record Store Day in April.

Though, I can't tell you how much I dream of an Elvis album. 5 years since a collaborative album, 8 since a full solo album!!

Did anyone catch where this track was used in Sunday's episode, or was it cut?

I wonder if Elvis did record a version of "Backstabbers" as well, that got cut.

Re: Elvis Costello Solo Carnegie Hall June 24/25

I feel that I should defend "The Last Year of My Youth" from last night. I thought it was a little "catchier" musically than the Letterman version. Plus I can't be sure, but. i think he tightened up the lyrics a little. I definitely had a stronger opinion of the song last night. ...

Amazing show!!! My personal highlights:

Walking My Baby Back Home
Shabby Doll
Ascension Day and You Turned to Me (on guitar!)
Come the Meantimes
Jimmie Standing in the Rain (always a favorite)
Alison (it always amazing to me how Elvis can bring such life to a song he's played so much)

Re: New album for 2013: "Wise Up Ghost" (with The Roots!)

Frankly, I find "Wake Me Up" to be the only song on the album that gets a little tiresome, speaking of song length.

"Sugar Won’t Work", "Refuse To Be Saved", and "Stick Out Your Tongue" really build up into quite a groove. "Wake Me Up" - not so much.

Re: Wishful Thinking: Songs You'd Love To See Elvis Cover

I always wished it had come to pass. Many years ago there was a charity tribute to Sgt. Pepper's where Elvis and Tom Waits were suppose to record "A Day in the Life". I guess their schedules did not make it possible. I just assume that Elvis would get the Lennon, main vocal; and Tom Waits ...

The Roots and Gov't Mule are both here. I wish there was a chance that Elvis would show up.

Re: Other artists' songs that remind you of EC

Is it just me, or does Radiohead's "OK Computer" generally just sound and feel a lot like "Imperial Bedroom"? Songs like "No Surprises" and "Let Down" just remind me of Elvis, though I can't point exactly to why.
