Question about Pete Thomas

While I was in New Orleans for JazzFest I caught Los Lobos at an evening show at the House Of Blues. I was talking to a guy standing next to me who was a local drummer and he said he had done some studio work with Pete and Elvis. He said he and Pete and Los Lobos' drummer (Bugs????) had done some re...

Re: New Orleans JazzFest

David Byene was phenomenal. Many people said it was the best show they've seen at the fest.

EC mention on 'Black-ish'

Junior, the black son, is accepted to Howard, a well respected African-American college. His father is worried that if he goes he will become so immersed in black culture that when he graduates and enters white society he will not know how to interact with mainstream society like knowing popular son...

New Orleans JazzFest

Elvis won't be there this year, but there is still an impressive line-up. I'll be there the first weekend so if anyone else is going I'd be happy to get together with you. http://www.nojazzfest.com

Re: Recently viewed films

"Loving Vincent" is a film totally done with oil paintings. The look of the film is spectacular. It's as if Van Gogh painted the whole film: the colors were vibrant. The acting, directing, and story of the film were good. The story takes place a year after Vincent's death and a friend of h...

Re: Imperial Bedroom & Other Chambers - Pittsburgh, Heinz Hall- June 13 2017

If Elvis stays in Pittsburgh for the night he can go to the Pittsburgh Penguins parade on Wednesday. Last year they had close to 400,000 people at the parade. On the other side of town tonight, Hall and Oates are playing with Tears For Fears. Both shows start at 7, but if Tears go on first Hall coul...

Re: Recently viewed films

Saw a nice little film from the UK called Their Finest starring Gemma Atherton and Bill Nighy. It was a bit slow at times, but all in all it worked. Bill Nighy's character was pithy.

Dukes of Stratoshear mention on sit-com

A very funny sit-com on ABC is 'Speechless'. It is about a family with a special needs child. In one episode the father tricks a friend of his to organize his record collection. The guy completes the task and tells the father, "I took the liberty of including The Dukes of Stratoshear with XTC.&...

Paddy McAloon & Jimmy Webb

I'm a fan of Jimmy Webb. He's written some wonderful music and 'Highwayman' is one of his best. I knew many people have covered it, but an unexpected artist came up when I brought it up on YouTube.

Re: New Gig Thread

Saw the virtuoso guitarist Albert Lee. I was not aware of him until a year ago, but I'm glad I'm aware of him now. His fingers just flew over the fretboard. He played some Ray Charles, Gram Parsons, Everly Brothers (he was in their band) and some other classic stuff. I checked Youtube on him and up ...

Re: Recently viewed films

A Man Called Ove is a nice piece of film. It is a subtitled Swedish film. It is the old story about an curmudgeon and the new Pakistani neighbors that have just moved in. The old man repeatedly tries to kill himself to be with his wife that recently died. Of course, the family has an uplifting effe...

Re: Recently viewed films

Saw the very good movie Denial. Spectacular acting by Tim Spall, Tom Wikerson, Rachael Weisz, and Sherlock's Andrew Scott. I can't say that the movie is GREAT, but it does call for a recommendation to see. Interesting to learn about the British legal system.
