Re: Live music from Elvis on BBC Sounds, November 11, 2021

From the BBC web site: "Live music this morning comes from Elvis Costello who, ahead of a brand new album, will be performing his new single as well as one of his classics. Currently on his 'Hello Again' tour in America, in January Elvis releases - alongside The Imposters - ‘The Boy Named If,’ ...

Re: Interview + new single on WEVL FM in Memphis, October 12, 2021

As a footnote - and I guess nobody can possibly know this yet - are we assuming that the other side of the double A-side will be the same recording of 'Farewell OK' that briefly appeared online in December? We were actually treated to two different versions of Farewell OK last year. Let us hope it ...

Re: Is "The Beat" the first recording by EC and the Attractions?

It would also seem to make "The Beat" the earliest studio recording by Elvis Costello and the Attractions. The Basing Street Studios version of "Chelsea" (first released on the Rhino This Year's Model ) was recorded four days later. It just struck my mind that EC&A did a Joh...

Re: Attractions 'King of America' sessions

Hi KRM - I don't have that bootleg, so I don't know. But apparently it was accidentally released on the CD singles collections a long time ago. I managed to dig out my old copy of the bootleg, and it sure is that version. Thanks for pointing me in that direction. I found a lot of other stuff that I...

Re: Attractions 'King of America' sessions

Thanks to a - *ahem* - mystery donor, I have now heard the Confederates version of 'I Hope You're Happy Now'. It's a slowie version, very much in the style of 'Shoes Without Heels' (which is I think a classic and should have made it onto the original album - Eisenhower Blues could have happily been...

Re: on track… Elvis Costello and the Attractions (paperback), July 29, 2021

Lots of nice photos and 'informed dissection ' is an excellent description of the content. Dipping in again today I read lots that I had forgotten. Aspects of songs are discussed with reference to a mass of sources , from immediately contemporary to some very deep-dive material . Very impressive. I...

Very readable. Dipping into it I didn't find any obvious errors or outlandish, jarring opinions. Beyond mentioning sources in the text there aren't any footnotes and related notation, making the text very free flowing. A very tidy synthesis of different accounts. Recommended for new fans & old....

I remember seeing him sing I'm in the Mood Again on a UK daytime chat show hosted by Jimmy Tarbuck. He talked about the album North. Anyone else remember that? I keep looking for it on You Tube. Did I dream it? Sulky? Top Balcony? Any ideas? This one maybe? The EC wiki is there to support: http://w...

Port Chester - I wonder if anyone I know might be going    As I’m banned from your country for the time being ( I feel like Lennon with no green card) I hope my dear friends get to as many shows as they can manage ! I assume there will be good coverage from those two shows here!!! :-)

This version of Pump it up was released as a b-side on the 12" of Only flame in town. So it is true!
