Re: Armed Forces Redux - 6 record set

If Elvis is genuinely looking to show the progression through each song from initial conception to ultimate live performance, it seems to me he must include some of the concerts when these songs first appeared going back to 1978. However, these would appear piecemeal ( for example Sunday's best fir...

Re: Armed Forces Redux - 6 record set

Speculating on what is currently widely available (but hoping for something new), runners and riders could be: 7th June 1978 San Francisco Winterland ("Last Foxtrot" bootleg): was previously mooted as a Japan only official release. The concert was only three days after the already released...

Re: New song “Hey Clockface / How Can You Face Me’, sept 11, 2020?

thanks for this...okay, here we go!!! what a shambly mess. his voice seems to have the same sort of slight flatness i've heard in some concert footage...flat in both senses, too, unsharp-edged and tone-wise??? Suspect our hero is facing the same dilemma as many of his near-contemporaries (Dylan, We...

Re: Do you have a favorite EC concert?

THE WORLD OF TRAVEL was indeed WONDERFUL! though, i don't think it was titled as such. i could be wrong! I think you’re right. Certainly, in London he started the show by announcing “welcome to the world of travel” before breaking into some off Mic snippets of I got the world on a string...

Re: Do you have a favorite EC concert?

First night of the residency at the Royalty Theatre London 1986. First time I’d travelled outside Ireland to see EC & the A’s. Intimate venue. Stellar set, all but one track from Blood and Chocolate played and a 1-2-3-4 encore punch, then the stroboscopic unsettling closer of Poor Napoleon/Inst...

Re: Elvis Costello and the Attractions Radio Broadcast (Live)

I can’t stand up is also from the Royalty. I can’t hear the others but would guess the Royalty show also accounts for the bulk of the other tracks (judging by a quick comparison of the quoted length against my original boot). All this useless beauty might be the odd one out: 1 Uncomplicated (Live) 8...

Re: Artists who were influenced by Elvis Costello

Elvis Costello - Blood And Chocolate Possibly the most easily spotted Radiohead influence, Elvis’s angriest album nods many parallels in Thom’s more bilious lyrics. Thom finally met Elvis Costello two years ago when Costello approached him at a festival. It tums out that Elvis had heard Thom on the ...

From a post on the Steve Hoffmann forum:

Yep. What I’ve heard of it sounds great too (ssh). The band is also nearly finished with a new album, but the virus will have slowed things down on that end.

Just an update, I made a mistake in the original, post, it was indeed Lip Service that was listed as recorded in Beyond Belief, not Lipstick Vogue.

Re: Elvis Costello - Radio Sessions 1977 - 1983

Yes, the Wiki was updated this morning by someone after I posted this on a Facebook page also. The Wiki also details different dates and producers for each of the sessions so it does seem there were two separate sessions. I still find it odd that EC (and Jake) would redo songs from a month previous....

Re: Elvis Costello - Radio Sessions 1977 - 1983

Hi, a question for the experts! I’m passing the time sorting out my various collections into playlists for my own amusement. There’s a reference in the Wiki to a Kid Jenson session recorded for the BBC in April 1978. The Beyond Belief fanzine reported that the tracks recorded were Lipstick Vogue, Yo...

Re: Elvis & The Imposters play Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham, March 2, 2020

Something along the lines of The times are changing And peace on earth has come to pass Although the war is raging They say each war will be the last Said the boys back at Enniskellen There's a road block army does all the killing And the BBC will beg forgiveness... Then I can't get the last line a...

I think that clip was shown on the BBC at the time. I’ve never seen a complete set list for that concert.

Re: Elvis Costello OBE

Erey, there’s a bit more to the Honours system. Out going Prime Ministers can directly nominate candidates, a convention not always observed but one that has led to accusations of cronyism - if you google Lavender List, Cash for Honours you’ll see what I mean. Mrs May may be preparing hers as I writ...

Re: Elvis Costello OBE

Very eloquent debate. Just a small point Hawksmoor on your comment on the “Prince William” line from Little Palaces, I always took that as a reference to William Prince of Orange. The lyric goes on to reference the Pope, and E.C. would be well aware that different sides of the religious divide in Li...
