Re: Elvis in London, July 1996

I went to 3 of the 4 shows. The 1st one I didn't particularly enjoy because I'd broken up with my girlfriend earlier that day and was feeling very sorry for myself. But the other 2 shows were probably the best EC & A shows I've ever seen. (seen em around 30 times). I'd be very interested in gett...

selling my vinyl collection

Hello there, I'm selling off my vinyl collection. I've sold most of it now, down to the last 300 items. Got a few EC items in the last 300. They're not especially rare or valuable so I'm not going to list them individually on eBay, I'll just take em down to my local 2nd hand record store and see wha...

Re: Worst EC songs (originals only)

The Bridge I Burned
Days (I love the original but Elvis's version is too slow & gloomy)
Playboy to a Man
Daddy Can I Turn This
That one on My Flame Burns Blue with the "hope I wake up in time" line.

Re: Favorite Pete Thomas drum moments

Pete's a brilliant & very underrated drummer.
He plays a blinder on the Brutal Youth album, particularly Sulky Girl & Pony Street.

Re: Costello and Shakespeare

a couple more quite obvious Shaky references in EC's work.... "Romeo was restless, he was ready to kill." (opening line of Mystery Dance) and the Julilet Letters album. There are probably loads of other less obvious ones that I'm not well-read enough to notice. for the person researching p...

it was between All This Useless Beauty & Painted From Memory for me.
PFM just edged it, as I really love the arrangements.
Glad to see a few other people voting for PFM, I had the misconception that many EC fans hated that album.

Wow, that's quite a list.

I haven't seen all those combinations you have by any means but I've seen a couple of others.

BOB DYLAN with his band, EC, Carole King & Chrissie Hynde (Brixton Academy, 1995, when EC was support)

EC with Chris Difford, Glenn Tilbrook, Nick Lowe & Pete Thomas.

I've been away for a while since I went to this gig, but what a great night!
I've put a bit a 20 second video of "I Can't Stand Up for Falling Down" on Youtube for anyone that's interested.

Also got some photos but don't know how to post them here.

I can understand your logic of EC wanting to be around "young attractive women."
But how does that relate to the Spice Girls?

I had an email confirming that they'd received my cheque & I had 2 tickets, but I haven't received them in the post yet.
But assuming they turn up ok, me & Mrs DeathWearsaBigHat will be there.

One of my favourite songs "Heathen Town" has the line in it about the devil will drag you under by the sharp tailfin of your chequered cab. This is purloined from the song Sit Down You're Rocking the Boat from the film Guys & Dolls which has this line in it. "the devil will drag y...

That line in Crimes of Paris about "going down 3 times to only come up twice". I'm sure that's a tip of the hat to Long Gone Lonesome Blues by Hank Williams which goes like this. I'm gonna find me a river, one that's cold as ice. And when I find me that river, Lord I'm gonna pay the price,...

Sorry if this one has been done before but how about a list of favourite instrumental breaks/solos in EC songs. N.B. I haven't included any Steve Nieve solos because I've created a different thread especially for those. Here's my Top 10 (in no particular order). Any King's Shilling - instrumental ve...

You'll Never Walk Alone

A few years ago, Elvis did a cracking version of You'll Never Walk Alone on a BBC charity programme. I think it was Comic Relief night or Children in Need or something. Does anyone have an Mp3 or even better a video? If so, please can you put it up on to YouTube for me & the rest of the world to...
