Re: 'Elvis Costello - In Motion Pictures', Nov. '12

I'll probably get a copy soon, if I see it in a store somewhere. Odd that nobody seems to be advertising it... it's almost like they don't WANT it to sell well! :? Very strange. I love "She" and there are some other tracks that are unknown to me, so this could be a nice Christmas pressie t...

Re: I Want You

Recently came across this extraordinary version, sung by Fiona Apple, with EC accompanying her on the guitar: http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=related&v=cAJ2HK2Epqs#/watch?feature=related&v=cAJ2HK2Epqs What an amazing performance and EC must rate her highly, to let her sing it. Fiona looks...

Re: Let's get Elvis to No. 1!

Looking at that list I think it's going to be hard work for Elvis to pull this one off, I think he'll do well to make the Top 20. The one thing that he has going for him is that the heavyweights in the contest generally have more than one entry which will split their vote. Yes, good point about the...

Re: Elvis/The Imposters, Basingstoke 20 June 2013

I managed to get some decent tickets so next June can't come soon enough for me. Seeing Elvis play this year was really special for me. The rest of my year wasn't great, due to various family problems, so EC provided some welcome relief from all the stress. I wish I could fast forward the clock and ...

Let's get Elvis to No. 1!

I was dismayed to learn that Oliver's Army never made it to number 1 here in the UK (I think it was kept off the top spot by a song from the film 'Grease'). This seems a complete travesty to me, but now we have the chance to put matters right. :) To celebrate 60 years of singles charts in the UK, th...

Re: Elvis UK Tour 2013

I had a pre-sale email direct from the venue and they had all the front row, and the decent seats in the rows behind, all at regular price. Interesting that many people seem to have quite different experiences of the presale system. I didn't receive any email at all and by the time I'd managed to g...

Re: Elvis UK Tour 2013

Thanks for the info fellow fans. I've now managed to get the link sorted but am finding that the only pre sale tickets they are offering for RAH are VIP tickets at £120 each (no doubt plus admin fees). I'm waiting to hear if my friend is willing to go this route. Has anybody managed to get decent se...

Re: Man Out Of Time

Thanks very much for the replies - lots of good theories there and I'm still trawling through the other discussion thread. Colin Top Balcony - very interesting stuff about Roberto Calvi and I can see why people might think the song is about him, even if the timing of the release of the record would ...

Re: EC's most frequently played songs

I'm really glad that Elvis plays so many of his biggest hits so regularly at his concerts. Many of my favourites are in the top 20 of that list, so I never need to worry too much about what else is on the setlist - the rest is a bonus for me. :D I haven't explored all of EC's back catalogue yet, but...

Man Out Of Time

I only came across MOOT quite recently when I bought my first EC album (I know, shame on me!) having only known EC's singles until that point. I'm a bit embarrassed to admit this, as I probably sound a bit dense, but I don't quite understand what this song is about. :?: It seems to be about some MP ...

Re: Elvis UK Tour 2013

Natasha, I was wondering the same thing. EC was great at Cornbury and I'd like to see him at another outdoor event if the opportunity comes along. Currently I'm planning to see him at Basingstoke and the Royal Albert Hall next year, but would be very tempted to go to another music festival if our ma...

Re: Elvis UK Tour 2013

This is brilliant news! :D There aren't any dates down in my home town, but I'll probably do London and at least one other, somehow.

Are fans on this site offered tickets ahead of the general public? I want to get good seats, esp. as I have to travel to other towns for these concerts.

PD, you write beautifully. Re: Elvis/Imposters play Cornbury Festival, June 30 '12

As regards the smiling issue, these days he is positively jovial and jocular compared to some performances I saw in the late 70's and early 80's. In those days he was quite vitriolic and you almost thought that he hated his audience, all added to the atmosphere of the time I suppose. I have attende...

So many favourites it's hard to choose just one. Re: I Want You

Well, if that's the sort of thing Bruce used to do on stage no wonder Elvis doesn't want to work with him anymore - what a moron! I read somewhere that when Elvis and the Attractions were inducted into the Hall of Fame, a journalist asked Elvis whether he and Bruce would be playing on stage together...

Re: Elvis/Imposters play Cornbury Festival, June 30 '12

Given what Elvis said on stage each night, during the UK leg of the Revolver tour, about Cameron/Thatcher, Rebekah Brooks and Leveson, it is ironic that he should be playing a festival where Brooks, Cameron and Coulson were all in the crowd. This may have given his performance of "Tramp The Di...

Yeah Verbal Gymnastics, that's EXACTLY what I meant!

Seriously though, has EC always been that way during his live performances? Notwithstanding the heavy subject matter of some of his songs, a few more smiles and a bit of light hearted banter in between the songs would do no harm, IMO.

Re: Elvis UK Tour 2013

Thanks MOOT. Having seen Elvis twice with the Imposters now, I've realised that some of my favourite parts of the show are when the band goes off for a break and Elvis plays solo. I'd quite like to see him do some solo performances or maybe just lengthen the time he performs alone, as sometimes the ...

I was there - it was a great performance from Elvis and the band! :D We were lucky as the weather was pretty kind to us - only the odd late shower during the evening, which didn't dampen anybody's spirits, although walking around the site was a bit hazardous as it was quite boggy in places. About 45...

Thanks Otis and JohnFoyle. Not long to go now. :D Website says that EC is due on stage at 9.30. Hope we can get reasonably near the ...
