I'll respectfully disagree that all Otis meant was that it was slick sounding. Here's the context: 1. List of greatest albums of all time. 2. People start bitching that their favorite isn't there or that some band they hate is (normal stuff). 3. I joke that Let's Dance is missing, knowing Otis will ...

Yeah, not all American stuff can be as cool as Bros. and the Spice Girls. American not as in uncool but as in produced and played by (mainly) Americans, with a glossy American sound, a rather American showbiz ethic, with Bowie as token British element. Attempt to make a feeble joke of your bizarre ...

I'm not sure, but perhaps the first part of your post was directed at my earlier post? Specifically the comment that we should "stop the one we have control over as soon as possible"? I wasn't talking about stopping Bush, I was talking about stopping the War in Iraq. I wasn't saying we sho...

I believe you will find that there is far greater carnage occurring there on a daily basis since the "war on terrorism" and the removal of Saddam than there was before. Again, no fan of the war in Iraq, but let's not kid ourselves about carnage under Saddam. He was responsible for the mur...

Mourning the loss of those who died in 9/11 shouldn't be politicized. It's one of the reasons I can't stand Bush and his administration that he spins 9/11 to his political advantage all the time. Comparing the attack to the loss of life in Iarq, Afghanistan, etc. doesn't diminish the loss on 9/11. S...

I had more fun at this during a Saturday matinee with two buddies from work than I've had at any movie in a long time. It was ridiculous and sublime. It could not have been better (from the standpoint that a movie called Snakes on a Plane by definition is going to suck). It was a glorious mess, and ...

I think the world's first backward acordion is on Big Sister's Clothes, and isn't that on Trust? I will say of IB that it was an absolute thrill to hear EC and Allen Tousaint (and the rest of the band on this last tour) play "Tears Before Bedtime," which Elvis indicated they hadn't even pl...

I DJ weddings several times a year, and I'll share the tracks I've enjoyed playing at those times in weddings I've done. For one wedding the bride and groom walked down the aisle to "Do You Realize" by the Flaming Lips. The father and bride danced to "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" ...

Here's a great 5-song EP from 50 Foot Wave (the newset band from Kristin Hersh, formerly of Throwing Muses). It's actually called Free Music, and it's available here:
