Re: The Judgement

This is a bit off-topic, but how did EC and Peter Wolf become such good friends? Seems like an odd pairing....

Re: The Magnificent Octopus

I'm sure it'll take me a while to absorb all of the imagery and dense lyricism, but it's something I'm looking forward to when I purchase the CD and the vinyl. As of right now, there isn't a weak song I can hear, and the three obvious standouts are 'Slow Drag With Josephine', 'That's Not The Part Of...

re I Lost You: a jaunty tune, but I prefer the live version(s). EC sounds a tad stilted here, almost like he's reading the lyric from a phone book. Thoughts? :?

Re: National Ransom - New Album Due Nov. 2

I think the big gap between the US and international release date HAS to have something to do with Elvis wanting this one out on Election Day. Otherwise, why not just put it out in early October everywhere? I thought about that. I suppose it's a possibility. That sort of thing made sense when REM p...

I love EC's current look. He's slimmer now, going all TransCanadian Hipster on us with green pants and sprigs of Man Jewelry even. Yes, sprigs of Man Jewelry yet....

Re: National Ransom - New Album Due Nov. 2

Is it just me, or does it sound a little bit like a Traveling Wilburys track? I half keep expecting Roy or Bob to take the second verse... It does, unfortunately. It also sounds like a bit of a rush job -- "oh shit, my new album's gonna be called "National Ransom", so I'd better get ...

Re: National Ransom - New Album Due Nov. 2

Sorry for the multi-posts, but this album is intriguing the hell out me -- if it's not a fully-realised masterpiece, color me crestfallen. A thought om the "late" release date (this thing could've easily been out this summer): NR's a very autumn (i.e., depressing) LP. No summer party recor...

Re: National Ransom - New Album Due Nov. 2

Saw this blurb online somewhere:

The album was recorded in Nashville and Los Angeles. It will be in stores on October 1 in Australia, October 25 in Europe and November 2 in North America.

Does that sound accurate? October 1st in Austrailia??

TRUST is definitely EC's "drug" album; but for me it's no party -- what I hear more than anything is a sort of claustrophobic paranoia. I'll take IB's cleansing hangover any day....

Re: Elvis writes, again, about The Beatles, Aug. 10

[quote="Poor Deportee"]EC is right about 'Yes It Is.' A killer song, with subtly unhinged lyrics, that is simultaneusly gentle, and yet explosive in the middle eight. Agreed, but I feel that "This Boy" -- which is the chassis upon which "Yes It Is" is built -- is the gr...

Well, now he's just spoiling us! All signs point to NR being a major work -- maybe even a "masterpiece" (without a question mark)...! Thanks to Wardo68 for the heads up on the lyrics -- "Station of the Cross" becomes twice as impressive (and about four times as harrowing) when th...

A Slow Drag with Josephine = Wow!

Is anyone else as impressed with "A Slow Drag with Josephine" as I am? Yes, it's a bit of a pastiche (a la "Honey Pie" or "When I'm Sixty-Four"), but it's a bouncy, positively brilliant one -- and the lyric is a baffling wonder: "Gavottes cravats cotillions in slow...

EC Album Covers: From the Iconic to the Moronic

Trust – A minimalist classic. EC’s entire personality is somehow contained in that simple shot. Get Happy!! – A brilliant homage to a cooler time. This Year's Model – Punk rock with a sense of humor. This ain’t your dad’s LP…. Almost Blue – Yes, it’s a rip-off of some old jazz LP I can’t recall righ...
