Re: 50 Songs For 50 Days - Elvis Costello's October Surprise

I'm loving this whole thing, but my eyes are continually drawn back to this: 'recordings made between 1977 and 2020, including several that will be issued here for the first time'. A third of the way in, the only track that would really qualify is' Shut Him Down'. Which is a fantastic track, don't g...

Re: New album Hey Clockface will be released October 30, 2020

One question, colleagues: among the various versions of Hey Clockface listed on Amazon for pre-order, one is an 'SHM-CD (inc bonus track)'. What does the ''SHM' stand for? Stands for Super High Material, a polycarbonate Costing to give greater transparency on the surface of the CD and is apparently...

oh crap. I always feel like I am stealing something if it is commercially available and i just download it only. Doesn't feel like I "have" it and doesn't feel right to not buy it if I can. I'm morally OK with it. Have I downloaded 'No Flag', 'Hetty O'Hara', 'We Are All Cowards' and 'Hey ...

Fair enough. A track we all had anyway - but then, so is 'I Wish It Would Rain'? No loss?

Re: C & N New York 1996 2CD - legit?

Agree with everything SL said, but just to add that in recent years the line between 'official' and 'bootleg' has blurred considerably, with all kinds of 'unofficial' live and radio broadcasts appearing quite happily on Amazon and other mainstream retail sites. If you just idly flick through the Ama...

'They say gold paint on the palace walls comes from the teeth of pensioners,
They're so tired of shooting protest singers that they hardly mention us'.

Another gloriously forced rhyme that I can't imagine anybody else having the audacity to do. Genius.

If it is "all subjective," there is no need for a conversation...why bother, since my subjective reaction to your subjective reaction will be my subjective reaction anyway? and so on. Same with the silly 'vote a song off the island' shambles. In other words, it isn't all subjective. Rubbe...

I really think that those bullshit lists are made up to 'please everyone'. I don't think they care who they 'please'. Just out of interest, was Armed Forces the most commercially successful of all his early albums? Possibly of all his albums ever? I don't have any figures, but according to Wiki, AF was Platinum in the UK and Gold in the US. His only other Platinum LP seems to have been MAIT which was Platinum on t...

Re: New compilation, based on Painted From Memory

I'm excited to hear this, but also intrigued to wonder what format it will take, given that he's describing it as a 'compilation'. The existing PFM with a bonus disc of the new songs? A selection of the tracks on the existing PFM interwoven with the new songs to form some kind of narrative sequence?

Achingly beautiful for such a short piece of music. One short verse, two chorus and then done. Maybe he felt he never finished it??? but, i say PERFECT as is.
