Re: The new 'major key' songs

True, Sulky - though I'm intrigued to see what he means. You're right, loads of his songs have a major key joyousness to them - and start in major keys. Must be tough to write a song that doesn't include any minor chords at all - as you say, they'd get repetitive! Maybe our hero could do an isolatio...

The new 'major key' songs

Elvis was saying in the recent NHS online Q&A that he's been writing a lot of 'major key' songs. I'll be REALLY intrigued to hear these. I remembered we were chatting about this topic a while back and have dug out the thread - it's here. http://www.elviscostellofans.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&...

Re: Elvis & The Imposters play New Theatre, Oxford, March 15, 2020

Good old Neil - great comment! Mrs Sulky and I both retired at the end of February and now we’re both anticipating an early recall back to the NHS !! Just my luck - first cancellations in 2018 was bad enough but expecting now a resumption of our careers. Oh Sulky - really? I hope you can have some ...

Re: Elvis & The Imposters play New Theatre, Oxford, March 15, 2020

That's a great statement from Elvis on his website about the cancellation. With no government statements about closing mass gatherings, it's great that Elvis took matters into his own hands - so sad for all who missed out seeing our hero, especially after the last tour was cancelled early too. Tough...

I was messaged to say Hurry Down Doomsday (the bugs are taking over) was played - a perverse joke to the Coronavirus perhaps! There was no perhaps about it - that was defo a Coronavirus ref! Great gig - saw loads of board members briefly in the pub before they rushed off to admirably support the su...

Re: Elvis & The Imposters play Eventim Apollo, London, March 13, 2020

Hi to anyone who's (hoping) to go the Elvis London gig on Friday 13. Do you want to meet upstairs at the Lyric theatre bar before the gig? It's quite spacious and if it's a mild evening, there's a roof terrace. It's in Lyric Square, just round the corner from the tube. https://goo.gl/maps/TRKXTgtNYt...

Re: Elvis in Suomenlinnan Studio, Finland, February 2020

Okay, I feel the need to feverishly speculate. 1) No mention of The Imposters. Could this be a small side project? Took one week. Is that a long time or not in terms of producing a record? 2) Not mentioning The Imps doesn't mean they weren't there. They'll be tight as a band cos of rehearsing for th...

Well well! If this isn't just Elvis winding up the press with a wild story, then, well, good luck to him! I'm all for him making an income from his work in whatever way he can. Google Translate must be taking a hammering at the moment in McManus Towers!

even in a SDE wouldn't normally be described as "new" and "unprecedented".

I know what an STD is, but what's an SDE?

Re: Remedy Robinson's podcast about Elvis's lyrics.

Agreed - this sounded promising, but the druggy-sounding, hypnotic delivery ruined it for me and made me stop listening. It was too soporific and stylised.

Is it too much to hope that this will be a DVD release of the Almost Blue Albert Hall RPO concert? I've only ever seen one clip.

'Unprecedented'... 'based on'...

So if it's unprecedented, it won't be loads of alternate takes, cos we've had that.

Maybe it's a live album taken from on the 'Imperial Bedroom and Other Chambers' tour?

'Around the Piano with Tom Odell' - ep 3

This is a decade-by-decade account of piano as used in pop music, from the 60s onwards. I've not heard of Tom Odell, but it seems he's a big deal as a newish singer songwriter. Elvis and Steve are given a nod early in the third episode about the 80s & 90s, from 07 min 19 sec: https://www.bbc.co....

Glad you mentioned this, Colin - just managed to nab one near the front of the Hammersmith balcony. Only a few left at the back, now. That said, a lot may have been snuffled by agencies!

Re: Help us help Elvis on his forthcoming Fall tour...

Sulky, Strict Time was a coincidence: https://twitter.com/ElvisCostello/status/1187743604984422400 Neil it wasn't a request, it was advisory  Chuckle. That's a very ambiguous tweet. Maybe he's saying that they don't take requests, but... accidents will happen (i.e. he may 'accidentally' play ...
