Ha ha - yeah. I also have tinitus from far too much Elvis on my headphones since my long-ago youth. But it was worth it!!!

Re: 'Under Lime' piano accidentally quiet?

All the sudden, E has many assistant producers here ACTUALLY thinking they shall remix the track before official release. Ha ha - well, I've had my say. Despite the one misgiving, I think it's a fabulously weird and wonderful piece that you can't really classify in any of the traditional cat...

Really? Even at 4 mins 30 on 'Under Lime'? (But throughout, really.)

Anyway, maybe it's just me! A louder piano would set the whole thing off, be the cherry on the cake, etc - but it's still a fab, fascinating song!

Re: 'Under Lime' piano accidentally quiet?

The piano riff in the chorus of 'Unwanted Number' also sounds accidentally quiet - it feels like it should be as powerful and loud as the vocal, for the benefit of the whole thing. But I'm not a record producer, just a listener!

'Under Lime'

Thought it better to bring this into a separate thread, as it's not about the new album in general. Having listened to 'Under Lime' a few times now, I'm massively impressed by the unclassifiable epic it's revealing itself to be: a sprawling diatribe that reaches joyous peaks but also plumbs very dar...

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

Disagree entirely. To my ears, the piano on 'London's Brilliant Parade' and 'You Tripped at Every Step' is way up in the mix, much higher than in 'Under Lime' or 'Unwanted Number', and quite right too. You're right, it is higher in the mix than the two new songs. But I still feel it's noticeable lo...

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

From Elvis' website page: "it was essential that I worked closely with Steve Nieve to maintain the light and space in the arrangements and allow him to shine .” Definitely excited about this new album, but the above Elvis quote isn't apparent in the mix of the two new preview tracks. Steve's a...

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

Crikey - I only know the excellent Grace Of My Heart version, so any added layer, I wasn't aware of. So if the new single is the Grace of My Heart text, I can confirm it's powerful enough without prior knowledge of the previous version. Bring it on!

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

the chances of finding a shop selling vinyl singles released on the same day here in the South West is like finding a virgin in St. Just (as my old boss used to say !) I guess I'll just listen to the singles on Spotify (if they're there), then buy the CD when it comes out. Funny that there's...

Good point, Sulky. And it doesn't matter about the title, as long as the songs are great. Sooooo looking forward to hearing this!

Well, it's his bluntest, least-'flowing' album title. But the song titles are exciting - and how about the decades-later re-emergence of the Carol King song, and Unwanted Number?!!!

Re: Girls Talk - live

I've seen him do it a few times in Cardiff and Swansea- I think and he's often dedicated it to Dave Edmunds - it's always been a bit faster than the B-side but maybe not quite as fast as the Dave version - this probably doesn't help much does it ? First performed on the Wake Up Canada tour of Novem...

Great stuff - thanks, all. I have a funny feeling I might have seen it in the Cardiff 'Return of the Spinning Songbook'. So did he go with the propulsive Dave Edmunds' arrangement or the more laid-back Elvis B-side version or was there alcohol involved...?! By the way I can't believe you omit...

Girls Talk - live

I don't think I've ever heard Elvis sing 'Girls Talk' live. Seems it's been a mainstay of the recent (sadly neccessarily abandoned) tour. Has anyone heard him sing it live, and if so, does he go with the propulsive Dave Edmunds arrangement or the more laid-back Elvis B-side version?

Re: Elvis Costello cancels tour after surgery to remove 'aggressive' tumour

We all love Elvis, who brings us such amazing melodies and words about being a complicated human being (via his own voice, songwriting, and his musical collaborators, not least his amazing band, past and present). We love you, Elvis - and we want more songs to light up our lives for a long time to c...

Re: Elvis Costello cancels tour after surgery to remove 'aggressive' tumour

The S*N tweeted an article to which Elvis replied "Typical “S*N” laziness. People who can’t write for people who can’t think. Don’t need your sympathy. Tell that to the 96 @elviscostello" I presume Elvis's issue is that said rag has headlined the story in a way that suggests Elvis is 'bat...
