Re: EC song of the week

Hey guys. Bumping this old thread to announce that our weekly blog was "picked up" by Trunkworthy, the very publication that originally inspired it. We'll be posting some refurbished favorites from our blog for the next few weeks, while we build up a cache of fresh content. Here's our firs...

Re: Erich Sellheim's German versions of Elvis's albums

I love what he's doing here. Fantastic job. Very impressive.

That said, does anyone find the extreme close-ups of his face on the youtube videos slightly unsettling?

Re: Elvis's Worst Song And Why

Oh man. There are a few ones that I find really annoying. "The Stamping Ground" has a really irritating hook. "Turning the Town Red" too.

Count me among the fans of "Tokyo Storm Warning". I understand the criticisms against it, but I find it such deranged fun.

Here's the song list. (Not including the song snippets that play in the background during the commentary.) the song snippets that play in the background. "Welcome to the Working Week" (My Aim is True, 1977) "Big Boys (Alternate Version)" (Armed Forces outtake, 1979) "Girls T...

Elvis Costello 60th Birthday Podcast

Hey guys. In celebration of Elvis's 60th birthday, I made a two-and-a-half hour podcast featuring over thirty songs as well as commentary from various podcasters and writers who are Elvis fans (including Costello biographer Graeme Thomson and a few members of this forum). If you'd like to check it o...

Maybe this is the appropriate place to post this. Here's a recent look at North by this board's own Kevin Davis, who was kind enough to contribute this piece for my blog: http://jorgefarah.com/2014/03/17/everyi ... vin-davis/

1994 Letterman Appearance

Hey guys. Long time no post. I was wondering if anyone here had any idea what this was all about. I love this 1994 performance of 13 Steps Lead Down on Letterman. But I'm puzzled by Letterman's introduction. What does it mean when he says "their first appearance in over... eight years" whi...

Wanna know what's kind of weird? "North" songs reversed

Clearly not the most profound of discoveries (any song played backwards is obviously going to sound weird ), but I thought some of you might find this mildly interesting. I was playing around on Audacity today and reversed "Someone Took the Words Away". You can listen to it here: http://jo...

No sign of it on BBC site that I can see, only the 60 min.

Re: EC plays Bridge School Benefit, Oct. 26 & 27, 2013

Jim Harrington is the same guy who tweeted "Just the thought of an Elvis Costello Meets The Roots album makes me want to run and hide"-- to which Elvis responded "once a twat, always a twat". He does seem like a bit of a grump. For some reason, he follows me on Twitter (I'm guess...

Re: WISE UP GHOST Deluxe

Picked up the deluxe edition for only 3 dollars more than the regular version, which feels about right. Lovely booklet. The extra tracks are nice to have, but I think "The Puppet Has Cut His Strings" is the only one I'll be returning to consistently.

I picked up the deluxe edition for 14 dollars at an FYE store in upstate NY. I really like the booklet.

Re: New album for 2013: "Wise Up Ghost" (with The Roots!)

I think Costello went out of his way to make NR something special, and he promoted the hell out of it, only to have it get a kind of shrug-- the usual mix of good and bad reviews that pretty much every Costello record gets now, but no lingering energy keeping it in the conversation, and poor sales....

It sounds to me like the reviews have been largely positive, yes? Someone said something about "mixed reviews" earlier in this thread but it doesn't look that way to me.

Re: New album for 2013: "Wise Up Ghost" (with The Roots!)

Yeah. There's also the fact that putting out these files-- even if the message board does feel insular and self-contained-- we may be ruining the surprise for other folks. Anyway, I know I personally won't be clicking on any more of these links. The album comes out in a few weeks. I think I can exer...

People from the EC/Roots camp have expressed that they don't want these recordings available, so I took down the "Cinco Minutos Con Vos" BBC rip mp3. I encourage you guys to do the same with the others.

Re: New album for 2013: "Wise Up Ghost" (with The Roots!)

I love the song. Love it. If I have one piece of criticism, it's the Spanish-language lines by Marisol are a little awkward (the words, not her voice-- she's amazing). The rhymes are a bit off and they stress the wrong syllables to make some of the words fit the meter. A bit of nitpicking on my part...
