Imperial Bedroom and Twitter

Elvis' Twitter account has been regularly posting lyric snippets from Imperial Bedroom along with some of the artwork from the recent shows. I wonder if he's not finished with this project yet?

Re: My Aim Is True: 40th anniversary

Wow, I am getting old. 40 years ago, yikes!!! MAIT still retains a freshness and energy to it after all these years. Now how about a new album El? It really is amazing how fresh this album still sounds. Really, all the Nick Lowe-produced albums have a timelessness to them that keeps them relevant t...

Re: Imperial Bedroom & Other Chambers -New York, NY, Central Park SummerStage  , June 15 2017

Meanwhile, across the river in New Jersey, I got a chance to see Nick Lowe perform the very same evening. A wonderful, intimate show, with great acoustics. At one point someone shouted out something about Elvis Costello and Nick responded, in mock horror: "Oh, that loser! Why would anyone want ...

I'm digging the long interviews Elvis is giving in advance of these shows. There's a new story or a new angle in each one.

Re: EC & Imposters - Tue, Nov 1, 2016, Pittsburgh, Heinz Hall- CANCELLED

This is actually my second Elvis cancellation, because I drove to Penn State in ’81 and you were caught in that snowstorm. Oh my goodness, that one! We started out with the best of intentions. Oh my goodness, I remember that distinctly. They said, “You might not make it.” We were like “Nahhh…” We w...

Well that's a fine little song there. And I have to say I've never really looked at those lyrics, so some of my mis-hearing has been corrected (Like: why does everybody have to be so heavy hearted...)

Thanks for sharing!

I was listening to the SiriusXM station First Wave this weekend and heard a promo for an upcoming show that was going to be some sort of party on the radio. The soundtrack to the promo? Party Party, of course!

Got a chance to see Squeeze last week in Newark. Fantastic show. The new album is pretty great too. The (English) Beat opened up for them. I was having serious flashbacks to 1982.

Bring on Imperial Bedroom!

Top 3 of the night: Alibi, Stations of the Cross, Good Year for the Roses. Stations of the Cross is such a great song--I'm glad to see it making an appearance again. It was a highlight from the Spinning Songbook show I saw in NYC. This one? RLp_Sk1Lj-c I forgot about the pre-Wise Up Ghost "Wak...

Re: Elvis's Worst Song And Why

"Tokyo Storm Warning" is a favorite of mine, from a top 5 Elvis album. I really like the monotony of the groove and many of the turns of phrase in the lyrics: "Japanese God-Jesus robots, telling teenage fortunes" etc. Blood and Chocolate is an album of never-skips for me.

Re: Elvis's Worst Song And Why

Some other candidates, IMO: --Party Party --Seven Day Weekend --My Three Sons --Brand New Hairdo It's always interesting to me that Elvis has scorned Party Party for all these years. While not a top-tier song, it has a nice horn chart and is a peppy tune. Doesn't seem to rate the amount of disdain ...

Re: Elvis's Worst Song And Why

My standard answer to this has always been "Dr Luther's Assistant", just cause it's so draggy. I'll also toss out "Broken". And second or third "Button My Lip", which is a too-long start to an album that I love.

A great choice this week. I've always thought of this song as the New Wave version of a Roxy Music song like "Mother of Pearl" with it's manic first half and then quiet second half.

Just returned from this show. Holy f*ck! Imagination (Is a Powerful Deceiver). King of Confidence. Poor Napoleon. Super-electric My New Haunt. Couldn't Call It Unexpected. All These Strangers. All the songs from the new album really benefited from being heard in their stripped-down state. It gave me...
