Re: A Brief Return and an LA Steely Dan/EC Shot in the Dark

And, in a not so stunning turn of events, it looks like I very likely would have a hard time at turning up at this concert anyway. Not the greatest timing.

Still, good to drop in for old time's sake!

Re: A Brief Return and an LA Steely Dan/EC Shot in the Dark

Well, it's old home day. Nope, no serious illnesses (yet). Oh, and what reminder of drama now nearly forgotten (though the very name of a certain long ago flame of our mutual idol still brings out the shivers).

Good to hear from ya'll!

A Brief Return and an LA Steely Dan/EC Shot in the Dark

Hey all. It's been, like, a gazillion years. I was once a regular around these parts up until about 2006 or so and some of you remember me (and I see quite a few of you on Facebook). Anyhow, I've been terribly remiss in seeing about figuring out a way into the show next a week from this Monday,7/13,...

I'm not supposed to be here anymore...can't let myself get sucked in again (at least until unemployment rears its head again, which might be sooner than I think) but I just couldn't resist the opportunity to turn you all on to Manhattan's, the whiskey-based inversion of a gin or vodka martini. It's ...

So for some reason I chose today to start running around youtube looking at Elvis stuff, and some comment spammer keeps posting about a Squeeze reunion tour this summer. So, I decide to look it up as I love Squeeze. I find that tonight they are playing at the Grove in Anaheim, which is about five mi...

Why the silent treatment? Two words: My blog. It just doesn't leave time for much else and pretty much gets my ya-yas out for my geekish side which I used to do here (though message boards allow for greater sloppinesses). But it's this place that convinced me I had to do that, so I owe you guys a l...

Many, many congratulations Misha! I'm so glad -- and btw, did know that you happen to share a handle with a very conservative, rather nasty blogger who apparently linked to my blog at some point for some reason, though I can't actually find it. At first, I actually thought it was you who was the pro...

I have it on strict confidence that the whole gay thing is a front. It's all about the marketing, folks.

After a brief fring with with Jennifer Anniston, Rufus is now secretly dating all three Dixie Chicks. Pass it on.

I voted for the "great...on par", but I'm ready to move higher, as I've only properly listened once. Toussaint is every bit as much of a genius as Bacharach -- though I find the collaboration here a bit less consistently fascinating than it was for me on "Painted from Memory". I ...

This was why I didn't go, though it hurt a bit. Just couldn't see paying for the whole day (which was a pretty high if memory serves), and getting only a short set. Especially painful because of my famous obsession with...okay, now how I am supposed to say this without making a British sexual pun......

Well, "The Night they Drove Ol' Dixie Down" is clearly a plea for a serious re-think of the Emancipation Proclamation. But, seroiusly, a couple of these songs at least are more or less conservative, "Bodies" and "You Can't Be Too Strong" are more or less anti-abortion, ...

Belated RIP for Bryan Harvey of House of Freaks, and Family

I just heard found out about this a couple of days back and it really tore me up and, if you were lucky enough to know House of Freaks music this might affect you too. He and his family, including two young daughters, were apparently murdered by some ex-convicts on a killing spree on New Year's Day ...

Well, the story actually goes that Jared Hess ran into a guy (homeless?) calling himself that and he just liked the sound of it. I'm assuming the possibly homeless guy might have seen a copy of "Blood and Chocolate" at some point and, well, liked the sound of it, so it's at one or two or t...

But does this leave former official-sweetest-man-in-the-world leave Archbishop Demond Tutu?
