Re: books, books, books

For class we're reading The People of Paper, which is certainly interesting.

For pleasure, I've picked up Vineland by Pynchon. I know it's not considered his best or anything, but I'm enjoying the hell out of it. I like the writing style. Thanks Otis!

Re: books, books, books

Mansfield Park (Austen) and Agnes Grey (Anne Bronte) are done. Liked them both pretty well. Right now I'm reading Persuasion , another Austen. After that I hope to read Northanger Abbey . After that I'll have read all of her novels, but I'd be interested in reading some of the unfinished fiction an...

I've been listening to Neko Case a lot lately, Fox Confessor Brings the Flood. It's gorgeous. Maybe Sparrow might be my favorite.

The Killers, too.

Re: books, books, books

Finished Jane Eyre . Overall I really liked it. I didn't particularly like the "meant to be together" type of thing between Jane and Rochester, though. I felt like it was a little, I dunno, I just didn't like that Jane basically became his caretakerwife, in a way. It makes it a little bett...

I'm very excited about this. Good thing classes are cancelled; I would have skipped anyway.

Re: books, books, books

Otis, that was a brilliant pitch. You've won me over. Pynchon is next on the list after I finish all I've got. I'm trying to read at least 25 new books this year, so it would be really cool to discover a new author whose catalogue I could devour. Don't feel like you have to like it, though--a lot o...

I actually really like Austen, Otis. I never found the language a barrier. It's actually quite comforting. I've never read Thomas Pynchon, but I figure I should at some point. Any one book you'd recommend to start with? If they've got crazy names, I'm in! And thanks for stopping by the blog. It's a ...

Re: books, books, books

Mood, I am making my own list as I read. For instance, I just read an excellent non-list book (take that, Otis) called Misfortune , suggested by pophead. It goes on the list instead of Unless , which was pretty bad. Misfortune is probably one of my favorite novels. I've re-read it a ton of times. :...

I'm going to work through the Sillmarillion again over semester break. I am a fantastic nerd. Otherwise, reading Sense and Sensibility again. I have an unhealthy obsession with it, I swear. Also, I plan on re-visiting The Bell Jar once I get home.

...I need new books.

My tongue hurts, I think I drank my tea too quickly.

Perhaps I should be more worried about finals.

Well, the birthday haul came in again this year. As reliable as the tide. Most of these were self-selected presents, as it were. Much easier to make sure someone likes it when they pick it out themselves. The New Pornographers, Twin Cinema The Wallflowers, Breach Rufus Wainwright, Release The Stars ...

I'm thankful for a lot of things, really. I'm thankful for my parents sending me to college. I'm thankful for my boyfriend, who never loses it with me and sticks by me in all situations. I'm thankful for my art history class for showing me how much I actually like art (especially the Venetian Renais...

Yeah, I don't think so. I was looking for it to show my boyfriend but it didn't seem to be on there. It also defaulted me to uk.youtube.com for some weird reason.

I'm glad for one. Nothing personal at all against Stewy, but using as your justification the fact that EC is 'rich' or that it is a ripoff to expect 'real fans' to pay for archived material was very, very weak. No one must buy anything that EC or any other artist puts out. Sorry you had the hassle....

Re: Bruce Thomas in 'Costello' radio marathon, Ny, Nov. 7 '08

I heard it. They spliced it up into chunks, as we all know, but it was fairly interesting. He talked about his life before the Attractions a bit, how he ended up getting hired at Stiff, and took time to emphasize that he and Elvis were good friends in the beginning. He thinks IB is the best album th...
