Re: EC and Iggy Pop in Rolling Stone "Musicians on Musicians" feature

Always hilarious. I love how his shot at Elvis is that he will only get third rate groupies!

Re: Elvis & The Imposters , Thackerville, OK, WinStar World Casino,   Nov. 23 2018

Not even close to capacity. This is an awful venue. More like a high school auditorium with folding chairs. And the casino itself is a smokey hell hole. But they do get some good artists to play there. And I believe if they play there they can't play anywhere else within a certain radius for a while...

Re: Favorites of 2013 in CD

Jack - Austin is indeed a fun place to visit. You are right to note it is a bigger city than it's Potrland-like reputation suggests. It is the state capitol and business and politics are as part of the mix as the music, food and 'Keep Austin Weird' atmosphere. As for the rest of the state? Well I kn...

Re: Favorites of 2013 in CD

Jack - Plano is suburban Dallas, so none of the charm or uniqueness of Austin which is about 4 hours south of us. I would recommend a visit to Austin. Always great music playing live. My current favorite Austin export is White Denim. I would recommend their album D. Waterloo records is one of the be...

Re: Favorites of 2013 in CD

Thanks Otis. Both you and Jack's lists point me to things I may have overlooked or dismissed too easily. Always nice to be directed to new stuff also. And Jack - thank you very much. Your own literate contributions are one of the reasons I keep coming back to read the Board so flattered to get a com...

Re: Favorites of 2013 in CD

A year where my listening mostly stayed with the familiar – Bragg, Cave, Costello, Oldham, Sexsmith and Mark E Smith. But a few newer artists managed to find a way to get great stuff noticed. ALBUMS OF THE YEAR Atoms For Peace – Amok In reality Thom Yorke’s solo follow-up to The Eraser. But this tim...

Re: New album for 2013: "Wise Up Ghost" (with The Roots!)

I haven’t posted in a while. Wise Up Ghost is a great motivator to move from lurker to contributor again. My Elvis obsession started in 1981 with Trust. And every new album was treated as a major event. At least it was important amongst my circle of friends. Probably peaking in 1986 with the one two...

For any one in the DFW area looking for National Ransack it is in stock at Good Records in Dallas. I picked up one for myself and one for another needy soul! They still had other copies on the shelf. $7.99.

Re: great bands since 2003

I am usually the last to hear of the best new bands. So probably not any surprises for you here. Arcade Fire for sure. The Go! Team. Thunder, Lightening Strike especially, but their second album continues right where the first left off. Inventive, fun and highly addictive. Rip, Rig And Panic were th...

Re: Elvis when you least expect it

The movie Dan In Real Life with Steve Carell & Juliette Bonoche.

Elvis' Human Hands sung by Sondre Lerche.

The soundtrack is full of Sondre Lerche, accoring to IMDB the director Peter Hedges is a big fan of hers.

Re: The Return of Edwyn Collins

I remember seeing Siouxsie And The Banshees in the mid-80s with Robert Smith of the Cure touring as the Banshees guitarist, but Edwyn Collins with Roddy Frame helping out is a far more exciting pairing! Well worth the trip to London Otis! I remember seeing Edwyn when he was touring for A Girl Like Y...

Re: Recently viewed films

Bamboo - I am willing to accept there is something wrong with me rather than you - but surely Dr Strangelove is hilarious? A Clockwork Orange does appear dated and rather tame compared to current cinema. I agree with Otis that its 'Banned In Britain' tag gave it more notoriety than it deserved. Miss...

Thanks Blue. I want to see Michael Clayton again to really determine how deluded I was or wasn't.

There were many good things about Blood, thank for highlighting a couple! The final 30 minutes were a real let-down.

Re: Recently viewed films

My own efforts with this year’s Academy nominated films are pretty thin. I personally loved Michael Clayton and would love to see it win. I didn't know what to expect and was totally won over. The story was told in a way that challenged and entertained. I thought the performances were all excellent....
