Re: Look Now: new album announced!

I thought *I* was the Invisible Man. But I suppose we didn't see each other before. Anyway, the album is growing. It doesn't exactly work like a McCartney album, which is relatively simpler(*) and straightforward. Now many of the melodies are stuck in my head. (*) although you can find articulated s...

Re: 'He's Given Me Things'

There is a school of thought that sometimes if you ask Elvis to sing a song at a gig you are going to he will perform it. I asked for Shot with his own gun before one of the palladium shows and he performed it. Myself and VG looked at each other from across the hall in 'wow maybe he does read it' &...

Re: 'He's Given Me Things'

Thanks for helping me understanding the lyrics, Deportee. Looks like I didn't understand what was going on at all. I was rather hating the song, I find it heavy and anguishing - lacking a strong melody, sounding more like an exhausting litany. But it's a very intense and admirable piece of songwriti...

Re: Banal fanboy list no 475: Elvis songs that sound a bit like other Elvis songs

"Stripping Paper" reminds me of "Nothing Clings Like Ivy". Maybe I'm crazy! I'm hearing that too. And another one that was tormenting me, from the last album, now I've understood what is echoing to my ears: the hook of Mr and Mrs Hush ---> the hook of Deep Dark Truthful Mirror.

Re: Banal fanboy list no 475: Elvis songs that sound a bit like other Elvis songs

Coincidentally I was thinking about this subject just a few hours ago: The Sharpest Thorn always reminds me of Any King's Shilling. A song like International Echo more than something else by Elvis reminds me something by Bob Dylan, like Neighborhood Bully. Also, I've always perceived a connection be...

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

Unluckily I'm not liking the album at all, except for Under Lime, Unwanted Number, Suspect My Tears and not much else.

Lots of boring piano ballads that feel like whining, pale, uninspired leftovers from Painted From Memory (which I liked).

He surely did part of it in italian at the end/second half of the nineties, in Rome, during the Primo Maggio/Labour Day festival, before an audience of half a million.

By the way, that site now reports that the opening song was Hurry Down Doomsday.

Some of those songs I would have liked to hear in Padova.

While my ouverture of preference would have been Hurry Down Doomsday or Lipstick Vogue.

After The Fall, another obscure choice from Mighty Like A Rose, as Invasion Hit Parade some evenings ago.

Of course not, but his italian dates seem far from sold out. For example, at this link you can buy the tickets for tonight's Milan show, and if you click the " Acquista tramite scelta in pianta " sign, you'll see a map of the still available seats edit: Bologna and Brescia, in smaller venu...

I hope he will be fine in time for the May 25th gig in Padua. It would be the third time that I miss one of his shows, in fact I still have to see him live.
[Lost gigs, for various reasons: Correggio in 1994, and Verona around 2006].

Yes, Elvis wrote lyrics for one of the songs, as in Miss Ann, or whatever their previous collaboration was.

The title Turn The World Down sounds very Costello.
