Page 55 in AJ Hartley's excellent novel " Cold Bath Street", it's 1978 and two teenage ghosts, Roarer and Preston, are discussing the relative merits of Elvis' Presley and Costello: " Only one Elvis" he concluded, happily. "Elvis 'The Pelvis' Presley. Who's this Costello cha...

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

I found it satisfactory at best, .... Am I the only one here who doesn't think Look Now is a masterpiece? Nope, count on me in that regard too. But there are tons of other LPs that I do think are epic, so there are plenty of alternatives vying for my attention. Can't remember the last time I gave P...

How major is major? “Some men are born mediocre, some men achieve mediocrity, and some men have mediocrity thrust upon them. With Major Major it had been all three. Even among men lacking all distinction he inevitably stood out as a man lacking more distinction than all the rest, and people w...

Re: Self Aid, 1986

This is really old school bootleg territory, grainey jumpy video, slightly muffled sound - in a word FANTASTIC.

As well as Pete's aborted into into Pump it showcases EC's only known performance of Jimmy Cliff's Many Rivers to Cross.

I rushed out to buy the 2CD version from a shop today. Seems to be selling well Probe Records - frequented by the adolescent Declan MacManus - had sold out of their vinyl by lunchtime. I hope he has a hit on his hands. If you're a big fan of Painted from Memory you will love it, and if you're not (l...

Yeah, looking at the Wiki he's known to have played it live 53 times between 21st December 1982 at the Royal Court in Liverpool ( I was there :D ) and 3rd December 1984 - time for a revival as part of a Look Now UK Spring 2019 tour setlist methinks.
