Re: Jeff Tweedy Recruits Elvis Costello for ‘Gwendolyn’ Video

In a weird way, the video might be yet another homage to Elvis' "I Wanna Be Loved" video. This time the others don't come into frame from the side, but overlap their mouths. U2 ripped off this Elvis' video twice in a way.

Re: Armed Forces Redux - 6 record set

It would be great if the Armed Forces set included a remix, even with a blu-ray with a 5.1 remix. It is all the rage nowadays. Though Armed Forces doesn’t really need a remix - Get Happy!! would benefit from one definitely.

Re: New song “Hey Clockface / How Can You Face Me’, sept 11, 2020

It has already grown on me upon a second listen. I do like it. But is does suffer from a similar problem with "A Voice in the Dark"; where Elvis seems to bend the melody to suit the words a little too much. Plus I end wanting him to shut up for a second and allow a nice muted trumpet or cl...

Re: Do you have a favorite EC concert?

Another terrific Elvis concert that I saw: Wellmont Theater in Montclair, NJ. on 10/06/11; with The Imposters and featuring a set with the late, great Hubert Sumlin. http://www.elviscostello.info/wiki/index.php/Concert_2011-10-06_Montclair Hubert Sumlin had to be wheeled out in a wheelchair, with an...

Re: Do you have a favorite EC concert?

It is kind of a toss up for me between two very different EC concerts: 7/22/05 in Wallingford, CT. with Emmylou Harris, Larry Campbell, and The Imposters. http://www.elviscostello.info/wiki/index.php/Concert_2005-07-22_Wallingford 7/17/04 at Avery Fisher Hall in NYC with the Brooklyn Philharmonic. Oh My God, I'm crushed!

Big Boys is probably in my top ten of all Elvis' songs. It builds to such surprising tenderness and sadness when it gets to "She'll be the one".

I keep voting for The Beat - never cared for it musically, though the lyrics are terrific. It is great to see in these polls what other people like and don’t like. I wonder which song will win. I would love it if No Action won, but not likely.

Re: which of these two long players is MORE of a clunker?

I actually feel that has never been a clunker album from Elvis. Even the album that Elvis himself thinks is his worst (GCW) has some great moments and kind of works as a cohesive album. WIWC has some of my favorite and greatest Elvis songs. People seem to forget how truly great songs like Radio Sile...

It definitely reminds me of Tom Waits’ “Real Gone” album. Maybe a specific reference by Elvis to “Hoist that Rag”.

It does warm my heart that Opportunity make it as far as it did. Still sad about Motel Matches though.

Re: Elvis when you least expect it

On Today's posted TryGuys, "TryPod" podcast on YouTube; Zach was wearing a "The Other Side of Summer" T-shirt. I always loved the single cover, I didn't realize Elvis had t-shirts made. I presume for the 1991 tour with the Rude Five.

Re: Elvis when you least expect it

Elvis certainly shows up in unexpected places. I was watching the second episode of a new TV show from Thailand (available on YouTube), called “3 Will Be Fee”. A character goes into the bathroom, and there is the cover of King of America on an album-sized tile hanging on the wall - very cool!

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

Well, I came up with a full tracklist for Look Now. Though, it doesn't really work as a double album yet - just a very long (too long) single album/CD: 1. Under Lime 2. Burnt Sugar Is So Bitter 3. You Shouldn't Look At Me That Way 4. Stripping Paper 5. Unwanted Number 6. The Lovers That Never Were 7...

While you are there, you should get: Elvis Costello (solo) - 2013-11-27 - Morristown, NJ

Excellent Show: My New Haunt and It Tears Me Up are spectacular - among others.

Re: Elvis Costello & The Imposters: Purse EP (Record Store Day)

I never understood this impulse for music artists to release music that is extremely hard to get. I understand the desire to keep record stores alive; but I'm sure with only 3000 made, it will be impossible for me to get this release. Is Elvis so unhappy with the songs that he only wants a lucky (an...

Re: Spike: 30 years ago

I’m a little embarrassed to admit that Spike was my first Elvis Costello album. I can’t believe it has 30 years. I originally bought it (on the release date) because of Paul McCartney’s involvement. I remember being struck first at Elvis’ terrific vocals. It wasn’t long before I was exploring Elvis ...

It will be my 13th time seeing EC live. Third time at the Oakdale Theatre.

Probably the best concert I have ever seen was EC, Emmylou Harris, and Larry Campbell here on July 22, 2005.
