Re: Get Happy!! Survivor - Round 14

Wow, I thought Riot Act would be the last man standing.
It does warm my heart that Opportunity make it as far as it did. Still sad about Motel Matches though.

Re: Elvis when you least expect it

On Today's posted TryGuys, "TryPod" podcast on YouTube; Zach was wearing a "The Other Side of Summer" T-shirt. I always loved the single cover, I didn't realize Elvis had t-shirts made. I presume for the 1991 tour with the Rude Five.

Re: Elvis when you least expect it

Elvis certainly shows up in unexpected places. I was watching the second episode of a new TV show from Thailand (available on YouTube), called “3 Will Be Fee”. A character goes into the bathroom, and there is the cover of King of America on an album-sized tile hanging on the wall - very cool!

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

Well, I came up with a full tracklist for Look Now. Though, it doesn't really work as a double album yet - just a very long (too long) single album/CD: 1. Under Lime 2. Burnt Sugar Is So Bitter 3. You Shouldn't Look At Me That Way 4. Stripping Paper 5. Unwanted Number 6. The Lovers That Never Were 7...

While you are there, you should get: Elvis Costello (solo) - 2013-11-27 - Morristown, NJ

Excellent Show: My New Haunt and It Tears Me Up are spectacular - among others.

Re: Elvis Costello & The Imposters: Purse EP (Record Store Day)

I never understood this impulse for music artists to release music that is extremely hard to get. I understand the desire to keep record stores alive; but I'm sure with only 3000 made, it will be impossible for me to get this release. Is Elvis so unhappy with the songs that he only wants a lucky (an...

Re: Spike: 30 years ago

I’m a little embarrassed to admit that Spike was my first Elvis Costello album. I can’t believe it has 30 years. I originally bought it (on the release date) because of Paul McCartney’s involvement. I remember being struck first at Elvis’ terrific vocals. It wasn’t long before I was exploring Elvis ...

It will be my 13th time seeing EC live. Third time at the Oakdale Theatre.

Probably the best concert I have ever seen was EC, Emmylou Harris, and Larry Campbell here on July 22, 2005.

Re: Name your 3 songs to revisit this tour

Elvis’ take on “No Wonder” would be nice to hear. With background singers on the tour, it would be nice to hear “My Thief” and/or “Painted from Memory”. “Harpies Bizarre” would be nice (with its musical similarity to “Under Lime”). I definitely agree with the first post on this thread: “Song for Ros...

For reasons I can't quite qualify; "I Let The Sun Go Down" reminds me of "This is Hell", and "Stripping Paper" reminds me of "Nothing Clings Like Ivy". Maybe I'm crazy!

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

I loved "Suspect My tears" when it was released in September. But something about hearing it in 'context" with the rest of the album makes it really shine. My least favorite song is probably "Dishonor the Stars"; which just means that it will be my favorite song a month from...

Re: Elvis on Mary Anne Hobbs (BBC radio 6), Oktober 6 & 7, 2018

Wow, I found "Look Now" to be stunningly beautiful. I always thought that one of the most brilliant decisions with recording Painted From memory was having "the great" Jim Keltner on drums. His Ringo-like playing really cuts through the syrupy stereotype that Burt Bacharach had i...

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

It must be a music business tread now. Paul McCartney did the exact same thing with his new LP; two songs released really early, then one more released a few weeks early (Elvis is releasing Suspect My Tears on Sept 7th).

Re: 'Under Lime' piano accidentally quiet?

While I agree that the piano could be higher in the mix; it doesn’t get lost. Steve definely shines through. It could have been completely lost in this complicated mix. It reminds of Shabby Doll a little.
P.S. I love Davey’s very Bruce-like bass playing as well.

Well, if you preorder on looknow.elviscostello.com , you do get a September 7th download of "Suspect My Tears".

I'm really loving "Under Lime". It definitely hearkens back to Imperial Bedroom, but sounds so fresh at the same time.

Re: Banal fanboy list no 475: Elvis songs that sound a bit like other Elvis songs

Though the recording of Poisoned Rose on KoA is such a classic. Ray Brown & Earl Palmer!! Plus such a terrific vocal. The recording of TNTPOHYL sounds a little muted/muffled to me. T-Bone and his engineers got a lot of praise for NR, but I found some of the songs sounding too "compressed&qu...

Re: It's official..."brilliant new album"

I'm hoping a new album will be available in 24-bit on hdtracks.com; YSLAMTW is. This vinyl craze lately doesn't make much sense to me since they are using the 24-bit digital master to make the LP. Why not just buy the 24-bit master and not have to deal with the pops and scratches? Also, since they a...
