I got a vinyl editon of Allen Toussaint's 1978 album Motion ; the photos on it indicate that maybe some of Elvis recent choices in shirts are a tribute to this part of Allen's career! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v317/charleshardin/25May2006.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v317/charlesha...

Re: TRIR

I quite like the 13 tracks now, possibly the more so because Costello's musically trained voice of past few years often sounds 'all over the place' which I prefer. The sound of instrumentation etc IMO bounces beautifully out of loudspeaker-system - I await appearance of Japanese 14th track on Souls...

After a couple of listens, I'm casting my early fave song vote for "Six-Fingered Man." Runner up is "The Sharpest Thorn" which must be heard through to the ending (the best part). Of course, this is subject to change daily. I'll refrain from specific comments about tracks until e...

I am going to this show even though it is some 500 miles away. He's playing 2 shows within an hour and a half which I can't go to due to work. The nerve of him playing shows locally during the work week! Where does this rank me in terms of being an overzealous EC fan? :D

Some worthless speculation after a hiatus from the board...I can see Billie Joe wailing out "Lipstick Vogue". It kinda fits the Green Day mold and I can hear him doing "It's youuuuuuuuu" with with a sneer that would appear to be an Elvis parody if it was anyone else doing it. In ...

"Spike" was the first EC album that I purchased. I knew nothing of Elvis until I saw the video for "Veronica" on VH1 in '89. I was instantly hooked at that point. Using my paper route money, I travelled to a Strawberries record store in my home town and picked up "Spike.&quo...

The Delivery Man lacks that killer song too. While it is a collection of a lot of decent songs, there's not that one track that makes me say, "Damn, I gotsta have me some o' dat Delivery Man shit." In fact, when I listen to live shows, the only song that really pulls me in the the title tr...

Dear God that was some wild-ass piano! I love it though. If for one day I could be in Steve's head to see what's happening in there - that would be quite an experience...Some sort of maniacal genius thing going on with him, but he complements Elvis so incredibly well. Thanks for sharing.

Anyway, this very odd arrangement is akin to (...) a funeral. . ! How perceptive! Death to yer dreams, perhaps! What a striking arrangement this is. It opens with a slow & twisted 'Viennese' cortage - alluding to late LvB, early Berg and even a direct lift from Joh Brahms at his funereal best (...

Unfortunately the last couple of songs are not on the recording, for reasons unknown to me... A pity as that song's a bit of a rarity in the EC catalogue.

Thanks for sharing PoP! I have to say, your commentaries are worth the price of admission by themselves. Anyway, this is a very odd arrangement I have to say. Introducing the theremin in this type of arrangement is akin to a loud, raunchy fart during a funeral. Steve needs a 12-step program. PoP, I'...
