Re: New album for 2013: "Wise Up Ghost" (with The Roots!)

1st listen prompted me to go back and listen to MLAR. Stunned how good it sounds overall and flabbergasted at the brilliance of 'Hurry down' and, especially, Invasion Hit parade (neither of which were favourites at the time)

I've always assumed 'that little friend of mine' was a knob reference but maybe that is a function of the fact I live in Bangkok (really)

Re: Tramp The Dirt Down

I think that one of the main reasons ttdd was resurrected on the last uk was mt's then recently exposed leading role in the hillsborough cover up. Do not doubt the strength of his allegiance to lfc. No silence at ot last night and no silence at any football ground this weekend. And rightly so...

Re: Squeeze Documentary on BBC4- Take Me I'm Yours

One point which is very well made by the show is that Squeeze's commercial viability suffered greatly as a consequence of not being inherently 'visual' in the mtv age and beyond - an observation which arguably applies to EC to an even greater measure

I agree, when he plays it live the whistling is an interlude/bridge before the final chorus and it works so much better that way

Re: The Magnificent Octopus

Neil, it's taken a while but I still can't get past 'your wan wandering smile' (or, given the number of typos on the lyric sheet could/should it have been 'your wan wOndering smile?) as the best gag. That said I think still think that merely observing that NR is superior to SP&SC underplays the ...

Re: The Magnificent Octopus

Neil: much as I would like to I cannot claim credit for the gag as it is a quote from Baldrick in the 'Ink & Incapability' episode of Black Adder The Third.

I do, however, stand by my original euphoric (albeit marginally over refreshed) assessment of the album.

Not only that he's trying to imply that he was headed off at the pass and he was just about to ask the question, the most penetrative question, that will unlock one of music's great conundrums.

What a wanker...
