Always hard as one's parents age and decline, thinking of Lilian and Elvis and prayers offered up for her return to good health.

Pat Thomas is the brother of Bren who, together with the legendary Irish folk singer Padraig McElvey, formed a sort of folkrock/punk trio in Sligo in the late 80s. They were never either good or famous !

Re: Bruce Thomas, public interview, LONDON: Dublin Castle WED 3RD OCT, 2018

It turned out to be a really exceptional evening with Bruce ! I arrived in Camden and bagged the only parking space in the entire city of London by forcing a little Hispanic lady off the road and then made my way to the Dublin Castle - which was a real "spit and sawdust" rock'n'roll venue ...

Re: Charles Aznavour

I have been known to do a VERY ropey Charles Aznavour impersonation with cod English accent and awful vibrato and I bellowed along in (mock) tribute to She on the news and my youngest daughter said it sounded more like Elvis than Charles !

I'll be there if I can wangle time off work - and that's looking increasingly unlikely :(
Likewise, Bruce is the only Attraction that I've not met in person - though I feel I've championed his playing on this forum to excess !!

Re: Elvis's funniest line or song

On leaving my previous job, my li(n)e manager thought that line was a good quote for my departure - I didn't find it that funny.
"The long arm of the law slides up the outskirts of town, meanwhile in Clubland, they are ready to pull them down " always brings a smile to my face !

Re: London meet up - Saturday 15th September

The modest turnout was compensated by the wide international makeup of those gathered , from Sweden , Dublin, the Home Counties and janner - land . John was there first of course quickly followed by Verbal, Neil and myself . Kjell appeared soon after that with a couple of cassettes of early Costello...

He was on the BBC main morning news programme but, being on holiday, I stayed in bed and missed it. Mrs. Sulky caught the end but didn't record it but even so, when we wound back the Sky box, she's only caught the farewell section. The presenter did say Look now is out now mistakenly of course .

Re: Look Now: new album announced!

I must say, if an album is to be released on vinyl, then I much prefer it to be over 2 sides rather than over 4 ( including Get Happy) and it's a real shame that albums like Momofuku and The River In Reverse where all put out over 4 sids rather than over 2 - so in some respect I'll be glad if Look N...

I laughed at Fishfinger's comments about Bob Wilson ( and wished I'd seen Alistair's grand finale at the Oval too) but I'm gob smacked that he genuinely is John's father. I just hope he's a gooner too !! Perhaps that's why he mentioned that other famous DJ Gooner, pete Murray from the late 50s and 6...
