Re: Your first meeting with Elvis

I'd first met Elvis walking the streets of Cardiff with Cait before the 1989 solo show in St. David's Hall, but they were very absorbed and obviously not wanting to acknowledge anyone so I just nodded and walked past. My first contact with him was at Meltdown at the Royal Festival Hall in the glorio...

Re: Seeing Elvis Costello's Whitton/ making-of-MAIT timeline

Thanks erey, I think your interpretation of the Rotten quote is pertinent, particularly to someone who around that time said he always felt older than he actually was. For those of us who were around at that time, it was the most exciting period in music that we could have imagined. Instead of waiti...

Clive James doesn't seem to have changed over the year but this piece was a great put-down of Sir O. I was in my last year of A levels, contemplating University and revising for 4 months (as if !!) and our sixth form in a small market town in Devon had a smattering of people who insisted on playing ...

Elvis definitely made it sound like tomorrow in Sheffield would be the last Detour concert. He talked about holding a car boot sale to get rid of the set including the massive TV prop.

Re: Elvis plays Manchester Bridgewater Hall 19th March 2017

I stand accused, or at least not disappointed. The sound here was as good as I've heard from the Detour shows, the balance for each guitar was spot on and Elvis was again in excellent voice. I even almost enjoyed "She" He played beautiful guitar with the slower version of Stella Hu...

Re: Memories and images of Elvis in Ireland, March 1978 - new photos of Belfast show

Please pass on huge thanks to Terence for these brilliant photos. The quality for then is amazing and I loved the shot with the audience all around the stage, much like some early Beatles concerts ( notably the NME Poll winners at Wembly !!) Fantastic images and interesting precursors to Chalkie's E...

Re: New book from Bruce Thomas , March 2017

I think Bruce's football history is a bit chequered here. After all didn't he once live in Shepherd's Bush at one stage and wrote the club song for QPR ( Loftis Road Runners)? - but like so other non Mancunians, hitched his affectations to M.U. once they became successful again under Ferguson !! As ...

Re: Elvis plays Manchester Bridgewater Hall 19th March 2017

I'm having a few doubts about this - there doesn't seem to be anything much new in the offing - we saw a lot of "A Face In The Crowd" songs during the Detour shows in May last year and the format is certainly more than a little tired imho . I think the fact that the Imperial Bedroom shows ...

BBC 4 are showing a documentary on Elvis tomorrow morning (00:20 G.M.T.) in the small hours of Sunday followed by a "Later presents " which I guess is the A Case For Song since is suggests there are appearances by The Attractions and the Brodsky Quartet
