Re: EC to release Secret, Profane and Sugarcane

Just got my vinyl copy (at last) with Femme Fatale and What Lewis Did. Just a minor quibble but, like Momofuku, what is the point in putting a single album out over 2 discs ? - at least with an "old-fashioned" album you got a continuity (not quite like CD admittedly) but the effect of havi...

Re: Does anyone besides myself miss Bruce Thomas' bass work ???

I guess any comparison of performances and playing is always hugely subjective given that 32 years have passed since Elvis first played with a band that had Bruce on bass. I certainly agree that Davey's vocals are a bonus but if we're talking about bass playing then Bruce is the better improviser - ...

'Bold too well'.....must be a Manchester phrase.
Brilliant, Mr Foyle - I guess that puts them on a par in articulation with both Messers Gallagher :P

Re: Does anyone besides myself miss Bruce Thomas' bass work ???

Perfectly summed up as far as I'm concerned - and I'll never forget seeing Pete Thomas look somewhat ashamed when The Imposters tried Human Hands on the second half of the UK 2005 tour and Davey didn't quite cut the mustard !

Re: EC & Brodsky Quartet - Bridgewater Hall, Manchester 27 April

Thanks for the compliment, that was my recording. It's almost impossible to record Elvis with anything less than full soundboard equipment these days because of the incredible range of volume that he and whoever else is playing with him uses - and I'm not competent enough (or brave enough) to try an...

Re: Elvis/Brodskys U.K. tour -some jumbled images and thoughts

Unlike John, I only managed 3 of the shows ( Barbican with VG, Manchester and Birmingham) but I came away from all of them with one main thought - WHY ? Over the past 4 years Elvis seems resolved to test the patience of the British fans to their limit and I think I can trace this back to the C/N tou...

Costello Live Collection

Having completed my "life's work" a couple of years ago when I finished transferring all my Costello live cassettes onto digital format, it seems the time has come to dispose of the cassettes. Rather than just pollute the planet by sending them all to landfill, I'm wondering if anyone out ...

Re: Do you share your birthday with Elvis?

I would like to point out that I share the same birth date (though not birthday ) as John Lennon, whereas my Dad, a church organist, shares the same as Liberace and my brother's is August 9th which I think is the same as Pete Thomas. Of course my brother is a keyboard player and I'm a bassist - mayb...

I have two of these shows but not the Lone Star concert sadly, if anyone wants a copy - not great
quality recordings but what the hell.
I don't recall the mentioned concert ending in a medley but I've probably not listened to them for 10 years !

Philharminc Hall, Liverpool 25 June 2008

I'm now uploading this concert on dime. For those interested recorded at 48 kHz and 24 bit but converted down for dime to 16 bit 44.1 kHz on a Marantz PMD 620 flash recorder. Pretty good sound except for a couple of mike rustlings due to have to shift when latecomers squeezed past and a mad panic wh...

It was great to see John, Misha, Colin, Nick and the lady who's name I didn't catch at the Philharmonic. John was the first person I recognised as I drove down Hope Street in the afternoon. He was looking dapper in fawn linen jacket and wasn't taking photographs as I zoomed past. Elvis seemed deligh...
