Re: My EC mix cd

I think you could make thousands of mixes showing the "other" side of Elvis but I particularly love your selection and especially the last 3 songs showing Elvis' extraordinary range of styles. I've always loved "The Butcher's Boy" and could never understand why it didn't get a wi...

Re: My Aim Is True Survivor (Round 8)

Perspective is important. If you came upon MAIT late having heard other albums then it’ll appear pale and understated. However having bought it on the day of release it played non- stop in our student house. Yes TYM is better and the Attractions improve everything but this is where it all started. ...

Re: My Aim Is True Survivor (Round 8)

I'm afraid I'm with Neil on this one, my second Elvis purchase after "This Year's Model" and it felt so tame after the 1978 musical pyrotechnics. I'm also convinced that an early purchase of a bootleg El Mocambo also coloured my opinion of MAIT because every song from that album was blown ...

This is just awful. Sneaky Feelings, No Dancing and I’m not Angry would all be in my top six. I’m not Angry is particularly great in the way he is so obviously very bloody angry. Like me now. I love "I'm Not Angry" too - the way he played it at then end of "The Last Foxtrot" was...

The KBFH tape runs as per the wiki setlist except that I Can't Stand Up, The Beat and He'll Have To Go were never broadcast and are apparently unavailable anywhere. the BBC broadcast included Chelsea, Mystery Dance and PLU in their version but no-one seems to have the original recording except for t...

Re: Happy Ascension Day

Today (Thursday, May 21) is Ascension Day (40 days after Easter) on the Catholic calendar. "40 days passed by . . . but we'll all be together, come Ascension Day." Leave it to former Altar Boy Elvis to dip back into his upbringing to mine it as an allegory for a personalized hymn about po...

Are we agreed that Detectives should be included in this? It certainly alters the feeling of the album compared to the “original” Stiff issue in August 1977 !

Interesting to see that Elvis’ name now comes first in the list of contributing artists. Amazing what a Grammy will do for you - and I’m not complaining about him being respected as is his due !

Just to say the 40 year retrospective ground to a sorry halt last night when the combined recording of the KBFH and BBC broadcasts were ( rightly so, I guess) banned from being torrented. Re: Get Happy!! Survivor - Results

I played the album yesterday. I think side A should be the current B - i.e. I think 'I Cant Stand Up For Falling Down' should open the album. Why? Because in the current configuration, when you play on CD or Spotify, High Fidelity (end of side 1) runs straight into 'I Can't Stand Up' (start of side...

Did mine in the wee hours when mental health can be at its lowest - I've always found it a good and dangerous time for thinking so this tiny gesture from me is for all the folk for whom the darkness only brings fear and despair and to thank the truly talented people like Steve and Elvis for giving o...

Thanks, Kosi! I'm so pleased, because it's my favourite song on the album. It's such a brilliant song and arrangement - the places it goes. We are 'somewhere back in some secluded spot' cos Steve's organ part takes us there, accompanied by beautiful bass. And that guitar twang after the hilarious l...

I was just preparing the evening meal and topped and tailed some carrots when Mrs. Sulky came in and picked up the ends and sang "Thank you for the carrots, I threw them at the chicken " - she'd taken them for our rescue bantam and spontaneously come out with a line from The Juliet Letters...

Sorry Neil, isn't it about Elvis seeing Bruce get out of a a limo in Nashville - it's definitely musically the half blood prince of "Time Is Tight" by Booker T though. Anyway out you go "Temptation" - I'm always saying that to Mrs. Sulky
